Captain Sierra
The Delta V1 Kerbal SSTO. 90 km apoapsis, 30km periapsis with jets alone. No intake stacking, no mods, all stock.~ 3500 delta V.1) What's the delta V of the Delta V? ( I know this is answered, but I had to ask, just to make a joke out of it)2) When will Squad get the hint that should be a stock cockpit? Hodo
I could never do this. I personally refuse to air hog and my definition of air hogging is placing so many intakes that one must use the evil little cubes or turn on part clipping. Stack intakes on stacks, not clipped, surface intakes not clipping into each other. Because this is the policy I build SSTOs by, I have trouble with payload capacity.I agree that "Air Hogging" is a bit of a cop out or exploit of sorts, but hey if someone wants to play that way not my place to say anything to them about it. I myself do not build craft that go past the 3:1 intake to air breathing engine ratio. If I can not mount it in a way that looks like it would work or is correct I won't. But also using the FAR mod, keeps me from building non-working aircraft also. So stacking a bunch of intakes on the front of my craft just creates SO MUCH MORE DRAG, that I might as well walk to space.
KissSh0t
Air hogging is when you use part clipping to place many many intakes in the exact same location..If you can do it without part clipping.. and use how ever many amounts of air intakes.. that is simply using part in the game.Otherwise it's like saying someone is cheating because they used 10 fuel tanks instead of one.. or 5 landing legs instead of two...And I do know some of you use part clipping to build things... I am not saying part clipping is cheating, I am stating "Air Hogging" is when you use part clipping to place many many air intakes in the exact same spot.. Moar Boosters
I landed my SSTO on Bop! This thing is 100% stock with no part clipping. Well..... loads of part clipping actually..... but I didn't turn it on in the cheat menu.... just taking advantage of what the game lets you do with radial intakes.Backwards aerobraking over Jool.If you look at their faces..... they know how much fuel they've got remaining.Enough to take off.....But not enough to get home. If they lived on dres they'd be golden. The next version of this plane will have to have more fuel. BolkoB
If that's true, you are a TRUE SSTO master!!Well, thank you ) actually i like this plane, so much - when i start play KSP it was my dream - to make a plane which can go almost anywhere you want, there is still a lot of things i want to modify on it, like i got 2 space bike's on top of plane ( you can look on screenshot), so kerbals can fly on it almost anywhere in LKO since there is solar panels and ion engines. also this emergency pods - they not so good as i want it, id rather do 2 capsules for drop but it could look esthetically beautiful and could be reusable. Same think with lander and space crane which can put lander on stable orbit - want to make them more compact and smaller, cause i cant open one of the solar panels in reason of big sized crane. KissSh0t
@ Moar BoostersNow that is a really crazy aircraft.. and it looks pretty cool too.You could send out a refuel probe and refuel it : D Edited September 27, 2013 by KissSh0t

It's a good job they have an infinite supply of these things! I don't wanna think how much it'll cost to buy one of these in career mode. Next version needs moar fuel! KissSh0t
Here we go.. now it's set to have wings put on and go into outer space~Come on guys make a big red SSTO!! Except you Exo... you were too fast and awesome so you are disqualified.. lol
Cruzan
Testing the Big Red SSTO... vertical landing is hard.. intended for Duna.Succesful landing imo!Might try to make a Big Red for giggles. kola2DONO
I reckon this would be a good challenge for everyone.Make an SSTO Aircraft with one Big Red fuel tank as a non removable part in the aircraft..xD Challenge accepted and (almost) done!May i present to you .... THE KVOPP-491 WITH BAILOUT FUNCTION!It's a tuff job to get it into space, and it can't make it into orbit (yet), but it's perfect to fly to the north pole! Here's Vyom demonstrating the bailout function : Edited December 14, 2013 by kola2DONO
Exothermos
I landed my SSTO on Bop! This thing is 100% stock with no part clipping. I love how the design of this perfectly illustrates your user name. MOAR EVERYTHING! Pretty darned impressive performance though. Please drop us the craft file.I would except I kept tinkering with it and I broke the craft file; now it explodes on the runway. I'll rebuild a worthwhile version soon. This one was a hack job anyway. Totally inefficient with that big 'Skipper' engine on there.EDIT: Here is the craft file, almost unchanged from the pictures. *disclaimer, not even close to a final design! I plan on building a worthwhile NERVA version. There is probably enough fuel here to go to laythe. KissSh0t
I finally did it with a big red fuel tank... I found it to be very hard to get into outer space, needs some more tweaking. I used way too much rocket power to get up to 30 thousand. But it works, and I landed it... on empty.. Glide Landing! I run out of fuel just before the runway so I had to land next to it xD

After that I'm woundering what you did. You should at lest be able to pull up and start climbing. Up to 40-44km on jets alone before using two NV-1 engines to get in to space. You should not need to spend much lox getting it up there.Try to hit 2000m/s @32-33km then pull up to increase ascent rate and climb as high as possible on jets. Just rigth click on the one flaming out and you will see if it flames. From its stats.
Moar Boosters
I was going to attempt the big orange booster SSTO, but unfortunately lead designer Werner Von Kerman is on holiday at the moment. With him on leave, Jebediah himself decided to take on this project. He wandered into the VAB and found a fresh delivery of BIG ORANGE BOOSTERSTM. Apparently the come in boxes of 16. Who knew!?Unfortunately for Jebediah, he was unable to figure out the controls of crane, so he wasn't able to unload any of the boosters from the crate. He did the best he could considering the circumstances. It looked a little shaky at times, but it totally made it into orbit! A completely useless SSTO with 16 orange tanks. I think this is my most kerbal spacecraft yet

I kept having to use the rocket engines to bump up my speed.. but once I got to 20km the jet engines did very good..
