A problem for the last couple of versions of KSP for me is that I seem to have lost the shadows for my ships. Normally this isn't an issue but when it comes to landing, the shadows were really useful visual markers.

Any idea how to get them back?

What are your shadow settings currently?

Try fiddling with your graphics settings, maybe delete(after backing it up), your setting file and see if it resets itself.

For landing though, most of the capsules have a "radar altitude" indicator, which will show you your true distance to the surface. I use this for my landings, if you check your max acceleration, and your acceleration due to gravity, and your current altitude, you can usually approximate a suicide burn.

Is that consistent? Because sometimes there are patches of terrain which, for some reason, don't show shadows.
