Due to recent events, i don't think i'll be making that KSP 3D animated series that i wanted to.

Big thanks to my parents for letting me know that i can't make a career out of youtube, and that i'm wasting my time.

so here you go. the last frame i rendered of the show.

I'll still be on the forums. i'll just be seen as the guy who almost did something with his life.

As soon as you get the first episode out, and you see the love people give it, you will see that your parents were flat out WRONG.

Also, as soon as you get the first episode out, you will work much faster than you expect.

That makes no sense. Just because you don't make money off of something doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. You don't make money off of school, but that doesn't mean its a waste of time. You will learn a lot from this, and could end up making 3D models and animations for a living.

You've got talent for CG work. Creating content to share on youtube will later double as a portfolio to help you get a job with a studio, transforming a hobby into a very profitable and successful career.

Pitch it to your parents like that- that to get a job in a CG studio you need a portfolio of stuff you've made, and a project like this would be a great showcase for it.

Rewdew2! Don't loose hope!

Fortunately, I think your folks are just behind the times. Kind of like someone in the 80's saying you couldn't make a living making stupid little computer games, the person doing the telling is using an obsolete model.

Heck, maybe show them this. People are making money, often for stuff their parrent probably told them was a waste of time.

Bzzzt. you can make a career via youtube. Now granted, all the LPers that do make money via youtube also have other jobs as well.

Come on, how many subs do you need than? There is google adsense, but that's really worth nothing. You must have at least 10000 views to earn some "real money". 10 dollars or something. maybe less. I don't know.

But making videos on youtube isn't a waste of time. You give just some fun on other people, and if you do a video / month, you can just relax and do sometime working on a video.(for example, every weekend 1.5 hours working or something, just for your fun.)

Well i can't even set up ad-sense because you have to be 18.

And i do already do a crap-ton of stuff in blender all the time.

I wouldn't plan to make a living on youtube, but stuff like this will help you get a real job in the industry somewhere (film/video games). I've met enough graduates who couldn't code/draw/design their way out of an open airlock... examples of work trump everything else if they are good. Trust me I am basically uneducated and have been working as a programmer in the games industry on and off for about 4 years now, I'm pretty sure that 'my demo is a very complete first person shooter game engine' is part of it. :)

You cant make a living off YouTube get real. But you can use it as part of a portfolio to get into a good University or other 3d course and learn how to make real money doing what you love.

fwiw any video like this is likely to garner easily 500k+ hits on youtube. Maybe even 1m+ with some extended viewtime (people going back and watching it again). People like pixar might notice something like that.
