Over the Rainbow?

False - A rainbow is an illusion of light meaning it always is above you.

Correction. If you fly over the spray of a waterfall with the sun high overhead you can see a completely circular rainbow centred around your shadow. VERY spectacular! :D And if you were flying over a waterfall at the equator with the sun DIRECTLY overhead then you would indeed be over the rainbow.

Rainbows can only be seen when drops of water are brightly illuminated. In the case of rain, this can only happen when the sun is fairly low in the sky:- if the sun is high in the sky then the cloud casts a shadow on the rain. Therefore, normally the reflected and refracted light is cast back at the viewer from droplets quite high in the sky, causing that high-arcing arch of light. The waterfall spray scenario changes things by casting droplets into the air with no cloud over them to block sunlight.
