Female Kerbal Possible Concept Art (they are supposedly androgynous but bear with me)

I know that some guys here don't like to keep bringing up the issue of whether Kerbals have female counterparts. I've seen some of the artwork over at the fan art section, but most of the concepts really don't give me that "Yeah, that's it!" kind of reaction. Then, today, as I was browsing some of my friends' art galleries in Facebook, one of my friends actually came up with really cute renders of what I think is a possible excellent female counterpart for Kerbals. And the only measuring rod I used was well, "cuteness" LOL I believe they are based off Japanese Chibi-style characters.

So without further ado, I present my friend Osay's 3D rendered chibi's (two examples)...

I can imagine them in spacesuits now... :D

Not to create another quarrel here, just wanted to share this. BTW, yes it seems this post is more apt in the "Fan-art" section, but then this is not my art, and be rest assured, Osay/Shai knows that I'm sharing it here now, we talked about it so I do have her permission to share her work here. As a shameless plug, I'll also share her just-started fansite in Facebook, so you can see other 3D stuff she's working on (and please like it too! :D) Maybe we can request her to make stuff for KSP! :D Just ask nicely hahaha

I'll be sending her a link to this thread soon.

EDIT: I just realized, if I have a Kerbal like this as pilot/passenger on my flights, I'm going to seriously hate myself if the ship crashes :(

They look so Dead i don't know how to explain it

Edit: i would be glad if i crash a ship with them in....

Well, I'll wait for opinions/critique from others, and hopefully, your opinion doesn't represent the mean/average *snicker* And I did expect a certain level of disapproval/skepticism before I started the thread, after reviewing most of the discussions on the issue, so the negativity should be expected :D

As a girl, who's constantly been wanting female Kerbals in the game....

NOPE!!!!

These are way too um childish.

I mean male Kerbals may look silly but still professional, the colors look childish, the styling is childish.

They're totally fanservice, is there any reason the skirt is so short her undies show? I can't think of anytime I've worn a skirt like that.

Over all if it's the choice between no women or this? I'll take no women it's far less offensive.

EDIT:

I'm sorry, I looked at the images and reacted without reading your post. That was stupid and I apologize. Lets just say I have a visceral reaction to "chibi" and didn't realize these were not made with KSP being the intended destination.

They're...pink  Anime-cute - sure, but they do not fit into KSP i'm afraid. What does fit IMO? There is a forum user using a nick 'Moon Goddes' - check her avatar. That does fit :D

LOL Ninja'ed by MG herself two posts above. You don't have to look elsewhere. :D

Again, that was expected. Japanese anime is apparently not everyone's cup of tea :) And while it may perhaps be "fanservice" I don't think the intent is subtle-maligned, considering that the artist is hetero-female. :)

Two points I forgot to clarify:

a) They won't be of course, in this form--this is just a template for the idea. After all, I just "borrowed" the images from her. If we get some kind of favorable and constructive comments, heck we might be able to persuade her to try making a suited one, with less of the "animesqueness" some of you possibly abhor. So after I say, this I hope you don't react with "No, I don't like them to look like this" Because I myself don't want them to look like this ingame LOL

B) Again, my daughter loves games that have characters like this in them, so I was thinking that perhaps KSP can tap into a yet-untapped market for the game, that previously was apprehensive in getting it.

So thank Capt'n Skunky

Again, why are most of you concluding this is the FINAL form? LOL, I meant this as a template, esp. body form etc. I have a feeling though, that you probably want the female Kerbals more barbie-esque. If so, then I'll grab my hat and coat. :)

I disagree.

Who said Kerbals were male. Or female. They could be both. In fact Nova said they were both.

However, like Team Fortress 2, they'd never add Females because there will always be that one guy who will make some mod/plugin that mains them naked....

Just think of Kerbals like frogs. No one never knows the gender, but they know that they are frogs.

Sorry to frog-fanatics.

So many games don't have extra female characters and nobody cares. Why do we need them in KSP even though Kerbals are just Kerbals, no male and female.

I don't know if you probably didn't read (or missed) my disclaimer that I specifically wrote as part of the title of this thread (the one inside the parenthesis)--I know the definition of androgyny, so this sort of discussion is not really encouraged in this topic.

Haha, i love this strip. Spot on as always.

Anyways, i do like anime, and anime graphics style (though i'm more into huge robots :D) - but this cotton-candy excessive sweetness is just...bleh. And since it's a safe bet 99% of KSP players is NOT 13 y.o. girls, i don't think your idea will get any traction.

That's the whole point--there is no market, because the interest is not there. My daughter won't play a certain game if she can't find anything she'd relate to in that game. I am not a marketing person, but if there is anyone at Squad who values the marketing kick that something like that can add to a product, then it's something to consider.

Again Scot, they don't have to be this "sweet"--I just saw this AS IS and shared it. If I get some good interest, then I can perhaps persuade Osay to make a suited version and THEN we can evaluate it from a true KSP perspective--isn't that fair enough?

Sorry but i don't think Girls will play this game about semi realistic spaceflight just because there are Female Kerbals in it. They will play this game if they are intersted in Spacefight.

You are missing the point--how will they even know that there is a game about spaceflight if they don't see anything about it in the pages they browse, because the female Kerbals are not on the sample screenshots? And that's a rather pessimistic attitude re viewing kids interests. I work with kids, I go around our country showing off a inflatable mobile planetarium, and if there is one thing I learned, you will never know what kids are interested in, unless you give them the opportunity to see it up close and personal.
