Based on my experience with a mobile planetarium, I was surprised at how many kids are actually interested in astronomy, space exploration, and science, but never had the opportunity because they haven't seen it up close and personal. Well, I come from a third world country, so to me, these things are important--it's probable that in your country the attitude is that you just have to show it to the ones interested. In my country, the poorest kids WANT to see things, but they don't have an opportunity to do so, and perhaps this is why our mindsets clash--they come from different backgrounds. I think that if Squad was to make female Kerbals (which I would like), they'd probably end up "softening" the features of the current model. Someone on here did a really nice drawing of that. I swear game developers are so sexist when they make game characters. Only males will play this game so lets make male character and forget any possible female audience we have.Anyway ... end of my rant. Granted, when they find out how complex a game KSP really is, perhaps about 80-90% will go back playing in fairyland etc. LOL, but there hopefully will be the few that only found out about it, because they do visit girl-related pages, and they actually LIKE spaceflight. That is what I was after (lol and I'm not even part of Squad, but like most of you I am curious and concerned about their marketing methods, because I am concerned about the future of the game). I tend to look at games that look cute or have a female character in it just to check it out. Female character are a rare breed in video games so I tend to always check it out. I am a bit of a science and computer geek, and I imagine I can't be the only one. You are actually reducing your female audience simply by not including a female character. Really overall, It has nothing to do with the shape of kerbals that makes me see them as male, it's that hair style they have. change that subtly and I'm happy. I really do think that base would work out well, as long as the colors are toned down a bit and even though I personally like anime, it wouldn't fit in the game. I also feel they need to have green skin, either lighter or the same tone as the male kerbals.
