Discovery Lander

Recommended Posts

This is a long range one way atmospheric lander including a solar powered rover. It is pretty easy to pilot and I got it to Laythe without much problem. The only time i had troubles turning was after staging my outer engines but after getting rid of that huge fuel tank it handles fine. I will admit it is not very advanced but simplicity was my goal. It does not have any RCS, anyway to return, or a way to deorbit/salvage debris. Here is a video of the first two test flights so you can see it in action, and I also added pictures. I made this to start my Youtube Discovery Series. Its main mission will be exploration of anomalies. The first place I am going to fully explore is Laythe. This way I know most of my Discovery pieces have good range. For those of you who do download this thank you very much and I hope you enjoy. I would love to see your own versions. If I like it and you are willing I would like to add your versions of this (and future rockets) to my colonies/videos.

Few minor tips with the nav ball. During flight just control from the unit on the bottom of the lander, and when driving the rover control from docking port for a accurate nav ball.

Nice video. Though, you seem to be using Mechjeb. You know you can use the Instrument Landing System to calculate aerobraking manouvers? It saves a whole load of fuel on slowing down into an orbit.

Of course, as of 0.19, it also looks really cool.
