Hello, I'm new here

Hi all. I decided to try KSP once it went on sale, and I've watched some videos, ect. Scott Manly brought me to the game essentially.

I've messed around, I've gotten into orbit with satellites, and I've orbited the Mun (although I was only a few seconds short of fuel to return ;.; ), I'm hesitant to send the Kerbals into space because I'm not sure how to "get them home."

I have landed my probes back on Kerbal, but they just sit there in the water, and I'm not sure how to "complete" a mission; I certainly don't want my kerbals stranded in the water, but I don't know how to "recover" them. Any help would be appreciated. :)

If you choose "end flight" from the esc menu, the ship will vanish, but the crew go back into the manpower pool to be selected for future missions.

Is that the "normal" way to end missions? Or is that like an abort or something?

No, it's not an abort. Short of crashing the ship and killing the crew, it's the only way to dispose of a ship and recycle the crew.
