Explosions in Space: Pics of Your Most Awesome Catastrophic Space Disasters

Anyone have screenshots of their most epic catstrophic mission ending disasters not counting launch failures? These types of disasters are after you've reached orbit and beyond, including epic landing failures. Double points if you've captured an explosion in space. MORE points for more debris in the shot. These have to be legit missions where you weren't expecting a disaster before you entered space.

And let the audience know if you F5ed so we can show pity to those that didn't.

This was an ike landing and return probe. Due to some fuel underestimations, i was on a direct collision course with duna. After some panicked parachutes and minimal thrust, I managed to save the probe. It ended up looking like some sort of monument, so to coverup the crash, we named it Duna Monument #1. Bill Kerman is not the best with names.

Well I was landing this 1500 ton ship on Minmus.

The result is best visualized from orbit :)

Amazingly the crew survived and most of the payload survived, top part with crew break away before impact. I might make this an escape features on later ships.

Note the twr given is for the chemical engines used for fine adjustment and landing, cargo is 1200 ton rocket part for the minmus base so the payload to total mass faction is 0.8 however the ship has only around 30 Km/s dV fully loaded. Yes an orion is ridiculous powerful. Its also an nice way to clean up around the launchpad :)

That's a lot of debris. Looks like Jeb decided to relocate his junkyard.

Remember that whole issue where using [ and ] could sometimes cause rapid unscheduled disassembly?

yyyup. Especially when the brand-new cupola was involved, as I recall.

I should have saved some pics of the many, many debris-flinging blow-ups I had while assembling my space station. (Thank Harv for quicksaves.)

A Duna launch failure?

A glitch (terrain, I suspect) induced violent disassembly. Bill was standing on the lander after repacking the chutes. I switched to a rover to start bringing Bob back (Bob was unfortunately lost in a tragic face/terrain interfacing indecent after his EVA pack ran out of juice). I switched back to the lander, and Bill went for a ride. G'by, Bill.
