How much can it carry?

I have a launcher with payload at 2400 t. a little wobble at the start but no problems...

Then i made a new payload upping the total mass to 2600 t. and now the wobble makes some of the outer fuel tanks fall off or "decouple". So that made me suspect the launch-clamps as the problem.

(yes i am gonna test it right after i post this, but i think this post should be out there )

yes impact tolerance is 150, but it's not the clamps that break, it's the fuel tanks attach to them that break of when whole craft bumbs up and down a bit. It happens when i press "launch" and enter the launchpad.

in big launchers, the wobble is often caused by the outer engines' gimbals over reacting. If you keep only the ones in the center active (turn the other off with an action group), you'll see a definite improvement.

Yes i know, i got gimbal under control. it's not during launch or in flight, but when the game loads to the launchpad.

The main issue ( i think) with clamping heavy launchers from the radial boosters is that the decoupler in between the tank and the core can't support it, and thus wobbles itself to oblivion. just strut that shizz firmly to the core stage and you will be fine.

I've had the launch clamps break and drop my rocket which then decides to light its engine off. I've had one fall over and then shoot off and impact the VAB while I was messing around with the flight path in MechJeb. Kind of ruins the pilot's day when that happens. Jeb252 was not impressed.
