jajaja.... I think a new thread is in motion... "How-to" for successfully downloading MSI from GitHub. Let me just summarize for the lazy. Click on everything until you see a window pop up requesting to "Save As:".

Not lazy. Just don't get it. We're not all rocket scientist.

Although I bet you can't answer 2+2 without factoring it out the delta V required to think about it. Ha

So now since you have 000_toolbar in your folder.

IS that going to mess up the working of the toolbar since I already have the toolbar in another location. I got it direct from the addon store.

Having it in 2 locations fighting each other.

Maybe atleast slowing things down seeing as its trying to pull from 2 locations.

You only install one toolbar and it's structure should be:

If you have a newer version that mine, don't overwrite it, just overwrite the magicsmokeindustries folder.

but its in your game data folder.

Before playing this game I wouldn't bother looking at something if it said I had to download and modify the program to make it perform differently.

Make it simple for us non programers. Put this folder here.

Ex. copy Gamedata folder to gamedata folder. I don't think about it.

A week ago I would just coy folder over and if it screwed up.

Reboot and don't do that again.

Easy way for us would be to copy Gamedata/magicsmoke over.

Hey you need 000_toolbar also to operate. Download here. http......

I never install 000_Toolbar from various other mods. I have the newest Toolbar version from Blizzy's thread and just copy the mod folder without 000_toolbar folder.

Never had any issues.

I never figured out the reason for mod authors to include some version of 000_Toolbar to their install. Is it under the assumption that people only use one Toolbar compatible mod?

I'm going to be blunt. If you can't grapple with understanding the folder structure used by mods in KSP, then maybe modding it isn't for you. Getting to know this is kinda a prerequisite. You shouldn't be shy of deleting mod folders when necessary, because it will be necessary. The only thing that can be done with an overwrite by the user dragging-and-dropping is to update files that already exist (assuming the user is smart enough to overwrite them when prompted), or add new ones, but there's no way to delete them. Hence the blanket statement that often comes where modders say to delete the old folder.

As for the Toolbar, including it in mods has become standard practice. If you already have it, just don't copy it.

Having this requisite knowledge applies doubly when talking about test builds, where things may very well be messy and broken (though to sirkut's credit these releases have largely been neither, at least from making sense of what to install where standpoint).

Read and understand this, at the very least: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Addon

The whole game is still under development, and what's more, this mod is going through test builds. A solid grounding in understanding how KSP handles new game data (i.e. addons or mods) is a bare minimum for using these. There are no programs that are available and up-to-date to do this for you.

Sirkut has done just as much as every other dev in preparing and distributing their mod, the main difference being that the link to the zip right now is on Git, not somewhere else like other mods, and that is done with good reason.

The main assumption is suppose a person downloads only one mod. What does that person do when they realize the plugin doesn't work because it required Toolbar? The solution is to provide it anyway just in case that one person who never installed a mod can get it to work. Eventually I will add code to check to see if the Toolbar is loaded, if not it will continue to work without it but until then I will keep providing it and assume the user on the other end knows what they are doing.

Ok gang. Thanks to omgnull, while I was asleep he submitted a fix for at least saving the state of the rotations. Give it a try and see. Also, translations are really messed up. The parts end up dislocated. Working on a fix for that.

Amazing! I will test the new version on the same craft that I showed on my video.

There's a correction I forgot to mention. Rotational parts that have a connection node work during a saved game. It's surface attachable parts that are still having an issue. still test away!

No. Some mods include the GameData folder in their zip so all you have to do is unzip it in the kerbal directory not in the GameData directory...

I understand that some mods include the folder named gamedata.

That make it easy. Copy folder here.

Just like yours. It has a gamedata folder. However. You have 000 inside your gamdata folder. Have to remember that some don't know how a computer works. Yet they still use them to play a few games and play on the internet.

You want me to move this gamedata folder over to ksp/. Ok can do that.

Take this one for example. http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/dock-align-indicator/

So I create a folder I want to store this in.

http://imgur.com/vVNoZTD

Then I see the gamedata folder.

Copy it into kerbal space program/

Ok. Lets go test this out.

What the. Somethings wrong. Reload. Hmm.

Delete out the last mod. Works fine.

This mods made my toolbar not work.

Ok. So that mod doesn't work. Go to the forums and have the creator spending to much time on this because the toolbar is not his thing. Now you have the creator of this item working on it to. He/She thinks its the others problem.

An issue that had a simple solution. You have the old toolbar in there.

http://imgur.com/OYm1OpU

You need to get the new one.

I just updated the toolbar yesterday. Now I'm frustrated.

Your right about that. If the person only has one mod. However. This is rocket science and 99% of the world has no idea what how to figure it out. I got into trig in highschool. Yet I don't remember how to figure the cos sin tan and A2+B2=C2 and all the other math needed.

I like the game idea, but its a game. It shouldn't be homework. What would make this easier.

Mechjeb. Ok lets get that.

Man. Docking is difficult. I give up. No. Get navball and this and that.

Ok. What else. My ships are to tall and wide. They fall over while in flight. Get the magicsmoke ir. Now I can get that solar array up.

and its one after another. Either for realism or to just make things easier.

Now I understand that some know about computers and even less know about rocket science.

I've mentioned that before this game I would have just played the game as is before downloading a mod. Yet this has to be the most complicated game I've ever played. Yet its got a sense of realism, but still has the fantasy factor. This game is only limited to my imagination (and the tools provided.)

I started doing a search for the game on the internet and youtube. I don't know how many videos I've watched. Then I found the forums. Countless hrs of searching and reading to go through. (Side note. Every search I do. Does not direct me directly to what I'm looking for)

Now only that I have been so careful at installing mods. Reading through every folder making sure I'm not copying a folder I already have. (If so. Checking to make sure its just an update and not erasing what I needed over there.

I had to go through so many different mod instructions, videos, forums before I could trust myself to install it correctly.

Now that I have done it a few times. I feel confident that as long as you make it as simple as copy here. Paste here. I'll be fine.

If you need me to add XYZ to make it work. Point me to it. Copy here. Paste here. I'll be good.

So anywho.

What about those that don't know to check to see if downloading your mod. That requires an additional mod to work right. Even though you have it in your install. Is it the most current version.

What happens if I like yours so much and it worked perfectly. I had to get another. I download the next and remember. Copy and paste and that all I do.

I just made your mod fail due to overwriting the toolbar with an older version.

I get that he/she it make it so it checks for the new version when I click the button. What if the version I've got was even before that or it was something else that was written over. Some part, display or anything.

Now the rocket science part. Hold that thought

Now thats the rocket science part. Hold that thought

And this is why mods aren't supported by Squad. Sure it isn't rocket science but one must know how to handle folders and even looking in their own output_log file to see what is going on. It's basic file management.

Why the big fuss over toolbar? If I have the old version it will alert you to download a new version. If you don't want I install it and keep the existing one then don't copy it over. Keep all your mods in the GameData folder and not go deeper into that directory. When I do mine, I keep ALL the folders at the root of Gamedata. It makes it easy to troubleshoot.

I'm bored with this constant back and forth over this. Is infernal robotics working or not?

It's working like a charm!

I only have one issue: the toolbar button doesn't do anything or didn't i do something to make it work.

Also: is there a way to enable/disable a group of hinges in the window?

I am building a space station with multiple arms and i don't want that the unused hinges group showing up when using the other arm.

Its not just about the output file or the toolbar.

Its that not everyone is a not coder either. I don't know what the output file does. I just learned yesterday the if theres a problem. Copy Paste. and you can see it.

Not everyone knows to make sure that they have the updated version or where to find it.

Updated for 0.23 with Techtree!

Oh. My. God.

Please don't tell me that people just blindly copy across Gamedata folders without even seeing what's inside them.. "oh, this mod I just downloaded? Nah, don't need to check the contents or anything"... Simply because of the inconsistency between authors and the lack of a standard folder layout is the reason I check every single folder before I even unzip the thing. The amount of times I've seen people post on the Toolbar thread with a problem and it turns out they copied across the Toolbar 1.x.x folder instead of actually looking inside it, seeing the gamedata folder and inside that, the 000_Toolbar folder and copying that across. Mod authors should not bear the burden of making an install as easy as possible - the onus is, as always, on the end user to actually look at what they're getting. It's like blindly clicking on checkboxes when ordering a pizza online, then ringing up and complaining the toppings aren't right. Sirkut has done the most he can with the folder structure here - IR depends on Toolbar and until it doesn't, it'll continue to be bundled in the download. If you already have Toolbar, don't copy the folder across. And as I said, the onus is on the end user to actually look at what they're in for.

If the user isn't sure if the bundled version isn't the latest, here's a radical idea - don't copy it across and get it from the Toolbar thread instead. If it wasn't bundled, the amount of people posting saying it doesn't work would drown out any conversation, despite the fact there might say in big letters in the OP you need Toolbar (you can see in the the ATM thread - "ATM freezes the game!", "have you tried waiting longer, just like it says in the OP?", "oh yeah, it works now!"). It's a lot easier on everyone if it's bundled with it.

I'm entirely on sirkut's side on this - people who don't check before installing probably shouldn't be downloading mods in the first place. It's really not difficult and saves a lot of time for all parties involved. Right now, it is as simple as it can be. The only way it could be improved would be bundling the latest Toolbar, but seeing as IR just requires ANY toolbar, is a test version anyway, and the fact sirkut would have to update HIS zip every time Toolbar was updated, I'd say this is a fair compromise.

TL;DR - look before blithely copying across Gamedata folders. Now that isn't rocket science.

Can I go and play with robots now?

I can open the internet but you want me to make sure its working correctly too. What kind of world is this. I thought this was the world where I pay or support something. It better work.

I paid for something else. You better not be messing up that.

You programed it. You want me to get it. Support your product. Shouldn't you make sure your section works right.

You don't see the auto salesperson swapping out parts that you don't know about. They will let you know that you do need a part swapped out in order to keep running the car safely.

Thats all they do. Tell you about it and point you to an authorized repair shop. There not going to drive your car down to the shop for you.

Not picking on sirkut directly. Your not the only doing it.

Also I'm not the only one stating this. I've seen someone else mention it.
