The picture was said to have photoshop enhancements, so no clouds just yet. I am more excited about this update after having read this update, crew management will be awesome! Too bad most of my missions are unmanned lol

Clouds would be neat, but I can't imagine an implementation that wouldn't hurt my framerate in a big way, so sadly I would probably just turn them off.

I can... one which enables multicore use...

but anyway neither is coming with this update... The picture is a big tease. :sticktongue:

Yeah, I wouldn't take that 'cloud' thing serious considering it's a pic of the real life VAB in florida.

There is no "tower" anywhere near the real one.

I live in Florida. Pictures taken by me. I also have pics of one of the shuttles in the air just before landing... then a bunch more as it was towed back to the shuttle processing hangers next to the VAB.

For the people who missed it: "Sadly that picture could only be obtained after said kerbal had digitally added nonsensical gas clumps to the sky that just look weird."

Meaning; Those clouds are fake, not there/added to the picture..

Look to the right of the VAB in your first pic, just above the tree line, I see the very top of that tower that you claim isn't there. Also with your second pic, I notice that you are MUCH closer to the VAB than otherwise said. Also why wouldn't the landing area have a control tower considering it's rather vital to keep an eye on air traffic even if only the shuttle was the concern?

Uhhh ... Well before you guys argue about whether it's the real VAB in Florida or not, isn't it entirely possible it was used as a reference? Obviously, the photo was edited to add in the pretty clouds as stated above.

No, that's just another tree. There is no such tower at KSC.

Because it's not exactly an active airport? The only things that land there usually have a Meatball on them. Any civilian traffic is handled by civilian ATC elsewhere.

Uh, it's not like Kennedy Space Center is some secret site. Here it is on Google Maps:

https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!q=kennedy+space+center&data=!1m4!1m3!1d3109!2d-80.6509093!3d28.5783016!2m1!1e3!4m10!1m9!4m8!1m3!1d407363!2d-117.1089785!3d32.8245525!3m2!1i1335!2i729!4f13.1&fid=7

Feel free to point out the tower there; there is a shuttle launch gantry just to the north of it, but it looks nothing like a control tower.

That's part of a tree. Towers aren't for air traffic control. Air traffic control is in a 1 or maybe 2 story building with no windows next the radar. It's a dark room with people looking at radar screens. Towers are for Ground traffic control. The runway at Kennedy Space Center doesn't get much traffic. The runway at KSC is also not that close to the VAB. There is no tower close enough to the VAB for such an image to be taken.

The KSP weekly pic is a silhouette of the Kerbal Space Center buildings with a real sky Photoshopped in.

Well if that is a photograph of sky and clouds why is the light bloom of the VAB light cast over it? Or was that added in photoshop as well? My bet is that clouds are really in the game now - they just look too unreal to be a photo. I mean if you were going to choose a photo of a sunset and cloud there are millions of better ones than that. Also you can see the suns rays over the control tower so were they also added in photoshop? Either the whole thing has been touched up in photoshop including the sky, clouds, suns rays and lights bloom, or its all 3d rendered.

There are 3d clouds that look better than that in Rise of Flight and many other games by the way they so could quite easily be rendered. And if you were going to render clouds around the whole planet you would probably do them in massive strips like that, they would probably look quite wispy from orbit but very bulky from low down. Dunno, just looks a bit too unreal and weird to be a photo to me. But of course Mexico could have clouds like that for all I know...

Actually having tried to recreate that view in Kerbal just now I have to say that if it is 3d the game graphics have come a heck of a long way since the last patch! Because that sky and the light just looks nothing like what we have in the game at the moment. You do get sunsets like that in other games though so its not something that is impossible to aim for, but I cant see it having been done in such a quick space of time in this game considering what it looks like at the moment - unfortunately I think we will be waiting a long long time yet before we see a view like that at the spaceport! I do now think its practically all been done in photoshop, which is a shame but not entirely unsurprising I suppose!

About the light bloom, it can be added in photoshop. It looks like the red light is solid red pixels with a little blur.

It really looks edited if you open a image editor such as photoshop or paint and zoom in. I mean, it's just blurred to the sides, no reflections or anything.

Yes, the light ray over tower was obviously photoshoped. Possibly Render > Lens flare.

If you do it in PS you get a similar outcome, just do it in a layer above the image.

They probably took a picture of the new KSC in a position the lighting was similar and added the background with the sun flares, clouds and sky to match.

Probably some other things like the tree to the left, grass and far mountains. You might be thinking it is so weird because it's nearly indistinguishable mix of real life and game

Whoever did this has mad photoshop skills, it's just awesome, looks from real life.

Having Photoshopped a few things... The buildings and the semi transparent light bloom on the games VAB is one layer and you take your sunset picture and put it as the background layer and hit save. The light bloom is now overlayed over the background. Not hard.
