[1.12] HyperEdit [v1.5.8, July 10, 2018] - Cheat, Teleporter, Orbit/Planet Editor, & More

Ok, I officially hate the Kerbal Space Port website. It barely works, there are no hints or feedback in error messages, and now it's gone completely batty. The entire page is blank, except for a link to some auto-generated .dll file that isn't what I uploaded. I tried a few times with different text and file names in case Wordpress (wtf, really?!) was having a hard time with it, but to no avail. This is why I keep the focus on our own site, so that our users aren't left in the lurch.

Come on, Squad, you can't manage to find a decent web programmer to make that site hum? Sheesh... (ya know..., I know a guy. Just sayin'.) EDIT: And answer your email!

It looks like Kerbaltek Aerospace is going to have to take up the slack. I'll add a new KSP plugin listing service to my ToDo list. ...SCADOOSH!

So we don't put the plugin .dll in the plugins folder? That seems counter intuitive to me.

Actually, Squad is using a new folder structure now, where all our content goes into the GameData folder under the company name - "Kerbaltek". Thus, I've implemented HyperEdit this way, allowing us to add Flags, ships, parts, or whatever, and it all works. Pretty cool, I think.

All you need do, is unzip into your main KSP folder, and it will create the Kerbaltek folder in GameData. Easy peasy!

Important note!

It occurred to me that when upgrading HyperEdit to a new version, it will overwrite your "landcoords.txt" file, killing your saved Lander Locations! I will fix that in the next release, so that saves are retained. In the meantime, it sure is a good thing that all of us always make backups before we upgrade anything, right? ;)

I just discovered that I may have created a bug in the Lander component of v1.2.4. I changed the "Latitude", "Longitude" and "Altitude" labels to abbreviate them in one place, thinking they were defined only once, but missed them in several other places that may have caused errors or location offsets. I've corrected all the strings for now, and I'll set common string vars for labels across the plugin at a later date. That will allow for easy changes and even language options in future.

I'm calling the fixed version 1.2.4.1, and it will replace 1.2.4 in our Downloads page. Please update your copy ASAP, so you don't end up landing on the VAB instead of the Launch Pad.

I'm annoyed that this got past QC, but mistakes happen, and it's fixed now. The technician responsible is currently being "re-educated" at one of our top-notch "Personnel Reliability Program" retreats, from which over 83.7% of participants return! We wish "Redshirt Kerman" the best of luck. :D

About the strange .dll file that's showing on the Space Port website... De-compiling the .dll reveals that it's an extremely old version that was before my time. It's strange that they'd still have that copy published anywhere, and that it's showing the way it is, in place of what I uploaded and without any other listing information. Other KSP add-ons seem fine, so I'm wondering if the info I put in or the .zip file is somehow tripping up Wordpress (freakin' hilarious that they're using WP).

This has likely already been addressed, but is there any way to save edits you make to the planet's orbits? I spent a good four hours completely redesigning the solar system earlier today, and I saved with the intent to come back and play with it later, only when I reloaded the game, the planets were back in their original places, all of that work for nothing. Is this an optional thing? did I run into a bug? What's going on here?

No, sorry. It's not a bug. There is no way to save HyperEdit changes persistently yet, but it is on our list of improvements. When, is the big question.

Ah. I'll be eagerly awaiting it then. I've been wanting to begin work on This Project for a little while and it's dead in the water until a fix is found. Editing planets and moons is quite pointless when they revert every time the game's rebooted.

Other than that, it's a great plugin and I get a lot of use out of it. Send my best to the other devs.

Agreed. It's a feature that doesn't really have much use because of that. I plan to implement persistence across the plugin if I can, so that ALL settings remain, and can be easily saved/restored/etc., eventually.

I'm glad you find it useful, and you just did (they're watching us... :P). Although I'm nobody, I appreciate your kind words, and I'm sure the others do too.

Strange, this forum seems to be having a problem. I don't see the fancy formatting buttons that normally show when I click "Go Advanced". Also, was the favicon here always the default vBulletin one? Maybe they just did an update and didn't bring the previous config over. Even non-HTML line breaks are being ignored (I've used the BR tag), and Kerbal smilies went brokey too. Very strange.

Ezriic, I'm sure on any other forum that was a logical and well stated bug report, but the flaw in your argument is...this is Kerbal. Bugs are to be expected. ...and then turned into features
Careful, we don't want to upset anyone and get this thread closed. Squad is awesome, and everything is fine! O.o

The problem here stems from Ezriilc adding a new post and appending a "2" on the end as in "Hyperedit 2". The problem is that WordPress changes that into a shortlink of "Hyperedit-2" and the "-2" part is how WP does paging. So WordPress thinks that it's page two and tries to load page one and fails.

I tried removing the 2 as this is how it was solved in the past, but the original listing is conflicting. The problem is that it now thinks the download is from the original listing. This is the problem with SpacePort and would require more time and effort than it's worth.

If you want to solve this and not deal with conflicting with the *original* HyperEdit listing, re-upload and use a different name. I think you could even get away with "HyperEdit II".

We're sorry this is difficult and we are juts as disappointed in SpacePort as everyone else, but we are moving ahead with the new version as fast as possible. We will have it ready sooner if we don't spend time fixing a broken and soon to be discontinued version.

So, I've given you a way to use the current SpacePort moving forward. The ball is in your court.

Cheers!

Wow. Just... wow.

For the record, I sent several emails to the designated support email address on the SpacePort website, all of which were ignored. This keeps getting left out, and is yet to be explained.

Yea... um' date=' no. Actually, the site put that in on it's own when I created the new listing, and refused any changes. When I tried to remove the "2" or make any other change, it gave the all-too-common error with no information. The only way it would save, was if I completely blanked that box and let it auto-generate. Regardless, there are NO instructions of any kind regarding this on the site, and there was NO response from support. So, the problem doesn't actually stem from anything Ezriilc did, and Ezriilc attempted to use properly designated channels to report the problem, but Ezriilc was repeatedly ignored, until Ezriilc posted about it in the forum.

"Worth" is a subjective term, that is certainly up for debate, especially in light of the fact that we're all paying customers deserving of respect. The actual problem with the SpacePort is also still up for debate.

Look, I only just found out about this support issue, so your past experience is irrelevant to me at this point. I am trying the best I can to assist you yet you continue to insist we are wronging you in some way. Your constant insistence that we waste time fixing an outdated, broken, and buggy implementation of SpacePort instead of continuing to work on it's replacement is not constructive in any way shape or form.

Now you come here and mock me for trying to help? This situation has been explained to you now multiple times by both myself and N3X15, yet you continue to complain instead of trying to work with us to resolve your problem. If you want to continue with this attitude, you will find yourself unwelcome here.

I will give you a fresh start. I will delete your current listing and you can reupload it (or not) if you desire. I would advise you not to use "HyperEdit" as the title since a plugin of that name already exists. Yes, the system is not perfect, but continuing to complain and insist you know the best way to handle it is not going to earn you any brownie points around here. I've tried to be as civil as possible here but my patience is wearing thin.

Cheers!

Sorry, but that's incorrect. We are the only authorized HyperEdit plugin for Kerbal Space Port, and I am the exclusive copyright holder. I'm not aware of, and have not authorized any others. Can you please direct me to that listing, and then remove it ASAP?

Again, thank you for all your efforts.

EDIT: As for deleting our current listing, it would be nice if it will make it work properly for everyone, but I don't want to be a bother. If you're willing, perhaps you could just take care of it all and fix it so that it works as advertised? If not, I'll understand. Sorry to be a pest.
