How to stop lag (multiple probes)

Recommended Posts

I'm sending 5 probes to Jool as part of one ship. They'll separate when they get there to map the moons.

However I have developed some lag. Every 10 seconds I get a 1 second pause. I thought it might stop once I got into orbit but it hasn't.

I've tried clearing the debris and turning down the graphics settings but this hasn't helped. I've never had a problem before.

Is there a problem with having 5 of Kerbal engineer and/or 5 ISA Mapsats on one ship?

Thanks for the quick replies as always.

Ship (in Kerbin orbit) is only 91 parts in total. I've used the new version of mapsat for mun and minmus without any problems. I really like that the new version let's you zoom in.

I always make sure scanning is off until I get where I'm going. I had that problem with the old version.

Looks like mapsat is the likely culprit. I'll launch the same ship with just 1 mapsat when I get time later to see if it stops. May have to rethink my mission....

Did some quick test launches.

With all 5 mapsats got annoying lag.

With just 1 mapsat much less lag, quite playable.

With no mapsats, no lag at all.

Scanning was always turned off and the mapsat window closed. It must be doing some background calculations or something though.

My next challenge is to build a mapsat probe with enough delta v to move between all 5 moons around Jool. Does anyone know how much delta v to allow for moving between the moons, roughlyish?

Ick...

Unless I'm mistaken, it oughta be the difference in the delta-Vs to get to get from the individual moons to Jool.

For example, it takes 2500 m/s to get from Jool to Pol and it takes 2430 m/s to get from Jool to Bop, so therefore it should take only 70 m/s to go from Pol to Bop. That would be strictly for the transfer burn; you'd still have to factor in delta-V to get into orbit at the destination.

I could be completely wrong about this, of course.

For reference:

2500 from Jool to Pol

2430 from Jool to Bop

2190 from Jool to Tylo

1970 from Jool to Vall

1600 from Jool to Laythe

I'm going to try something to see what happens. I'm going to leave the mapsat parts installed but pull the plugin. Put a few mapssats in orbit around different bodies. Then put the plugin back in. See how much lagg there is with the sats far apart.
