whats better: orda a/p or mechjeb?

Recommended Posts

ORDA is good for docking and rendezvous, and landing, not much else. MJ does all of these things and gets your ship into orbit automatically. But I am philosphically opposed to MJ I use Hyperedit for the orbit making and rendezvous and ORDA for final docking.

I used to use ORDA all the time, but I never felt comfortable with its auto-warp to target with zilch for fuel expenditure. MechJeb is re-educating me about orbital intercepts, which I appreciate. MJ also does a fine job of docking, as long as your vessel's RCS is properly balanced.

From what I understand (i havent used any mods) but mechjeb seems to do a lot of the work for you which in my opinion defeats the objective of the game

MechJeb gives you as much or as little help as you want. One could quite easily automate an entire launch/rendezvous/docking/deorbit sequence using the various autopilot modules, or simply use Smart A.S.S for attitude control. It also, as Jack Wolfe said, helps educate the player about making orbital manoeuvres or RCS if the player doesn't feel confident doing it. All you gotta do in that case is watch the autopilot set up it's course and nodes, then try and understand that yourself. Personally, I get along just fine with using MechJeb purely for the Smart A.S.S, Delta-V stats and orbital stats.

Hang on. You don't use Mechjeb for the launch autopilot, you opt instead to use hyperedit to magic your ship into orbit?

What?

Agreed. It is an odd choice to be opposed to a system like mechjeb, yet make frequent (?) use of hyperedit. What sort of missions do you do?

Don't get me wrong. I use both mechjeb and hyperedit. I hyperedit stuff into LKO near my massive orbital assembly space station (without use of the orbital assembly mod) because it suits my storytelling purposes.

However to be vehemently opposed to what is essentially a flight computer yet agree with something that is more or less cheatengine 6.2 with specific tables...

That's kinda like wanting a girlfriend but hating women. I really don't get it.

Also, I used to use mechjeb for everything... except mechjeb is better at teaching how to play KSP than 1500 random wiki pages. Now I only use it for Smart A.S.S and the orbital/surface information pages and weight/d-v in design. Because frankly there isn't a tutorial and not everyone studied physics.
