Unmanned Command Modules

Recommended Posts

Is there anyway with .20 to launch a rocket with an unmanned pod? I am curious because I have a space station with about 10 kerbals on it and need some way to get them off without deorbiting the station. I use to be able to do it in the older builds with the BOLT-ON add on, but it doesn't work with .20. Thank you for your help.

The first capsule you install that CAN have crew WILL have crew, at least until the next update, when that whole system is being reworked. But you can send the guys on EVA and "end flight" them, leaving the ship empty on the pad.

I've built a taxi for this purpose using a probe core and a hitchhiker storage container. The probe core controls everything and the hitchhiker is NOT populated automatically. Gives you tons of space and you can reenter and land the thing safely provided you keep the landing gentle. Mine slows down with two drogue chutes, lands on two radial chutes, and has six of the heavy duty landing legs. Just keep in mind that you have to keep the probe core powered, and it's a fairly heavy hab module to be chucking up and around.

Did you mean something like what this video shows?

Yes, it is definitely possible to do that in .20... also, you could just send up a hitchhiker container if you want to do 4 at a time...

So in the next update we should be able to directly edit the number of crew on board and if need be send a capsule up unmanned?

Not really, What I was looking for was the ability to send one capsule up with no one onboard.

I believe that is an aspect of the crew management system that will be introduced SOON.

Possibility no 2:

Build whatever your rocket should look like. Launch. EVA a Kerbal on the launch pad. End the Kerbal's flight. Repeat.

I would not consider this as cheating. It's like telling kids to stop playing in that big thing because the adults need to work with it. :D
