Creepy stuff on Duna

Hi all, new to the forums, but have greatly admired it from afar for a while...

Something happened the other night, and I wish to all holy Jeb that i screen-capped it, during my first decent onto Duna with a heavy-rover. During the airbreaking (at about 10k metres, maybe less), I saw a column of white smoke, about the size of a man (or maybe two kerbals, one on the other's shoulders) on the surface of the planet, appear for just a few seconds, then disappear. I don't think it had any limbs, but it did tail-off at the bottom, suggesting it wasn't just a cloud or anything, and it was off the decent path my rover was taking.

I know Duna is the stand-in for Mars in this game, so... are there ghosts on Duna? I know there are a fair few easter eggs in this game, but this one wasn't static so I don't know what to think...

Has anyone else spotted anything like this? I will try to replicate the anomoly again with another craft I want to land on Duna, and definitly screen-cap it when I see it again! Updates later tonight (after I get in from work).

I've never seen that before. there si only one anomalous thing on Duna AFAIK according to ISA Map Sat.

There's two actually, the "face" and the SSTV pyramid. ISA MapSat can only add markers for the known easter eggs.

And idk I never heard of that. KSP's render distance is only of 2,5km though, so I don't know id you could actually see an easter egg from a 10km altitude, maybe you just saw a glitch in the screen?

I think maybe he saw some smoke from his engines glitch out.

Hmm another easter egg hunt, I'm game. I've been wanting to play around with my conventional engine Duna craft anyway.

Keep looking :)

I just got the Kethane Mod installed, so I have a significant ability to maintain a manned mission to Duna for longer.

This. I have a launch vehicle that reliably glitches the engine smoke; I'll bet OP's ship will work the same.

The particle system used with engines glitches out sometimes due to the way coordinate systems work in KSP. Anyone who has flown a lot of space planes probably came across vapor trails in the air just ahead of the airplane you are flying. These, of course, are your own trails that glitched. Same thing can happen during landing, resulting in some of your engine smoke showing up near the craft rather than underneath it.

Well, I don't know about this, but I'm willing to try my best to replicate it. Sounds exiting. :D

Other than that, I've seen a couple of un-explainable things as well, such as strange lights on the Mun's dark side (lighting glitch?) and seeing something sparkling in the sky (Eve is usually on a near pass-by from Kerbin when it happens, hint hint).

Anyways... this may have been a glitch of smoke from engines, or maybe an explosion randomly from debris? A heatshield that was dropped maybe?

I consistently see puffs of smoke above the rocket as I launch, and thought this was an atmospheric effect. Could it actually just be this glitch?

Yeah, did the decent again last night, and when landed, drove around the surface for a good 2-3 hours, nothing doing. Can't find it the ghosts again, seems to have just been the smoke glitching from my engines during the decent.

Btw, no mods, never used MechJeb, I like my games vanilla (at least until I've visted every planet/moon at least once), and definitly not easy! If anyone has the coords for those other easter eggs on the planet I'd love to pay them a visit, but my rover only does 10km on flat surface tops, so will take a loooong time to drive to them :)
