Need Help Assembling a Modular Space Program

I am using Subassembly, and I created a few lifters. Oh the joy of not having to rebuild lifters. It got me thinking: what if a space program was designed to be completely modular - using the same modules and parts to accomplish bigger and better things? But that got me thinking further:

What all do I need to design for a modular space program? So far I've got:

Lifters (5ton, 10ton, 20ton, 50ton, 100ton, 200ton, 500ton, 1000ton)

Orbiters (1 man, 2 man, 3 man, 4 man, 5 man, 7 man)

Landers (airless, air, water, high g)

Station Cores

Interplanetary Probes

SSTO Shuttlecraft

Interplanetary Drive Cores

Satellites

Refuellers

Emergency rescue craft

Tugs

Planet surface modules:

- Habitat

- Communications

- Fuel/RCS storage

- Science

- Electric generator

- Battery/Electric storage

MODS:

Mapsats

Kethane Sats

Planet surface modules:

- Mining

- Kethane refinery

... essentially I need a list of categories so I know what needs designing.

I think it's GamesReviewsUK that posted up some stock designs on the spaceport that are very cool and can be easily adapted to be modular. They posted a fuel pod design (which I love) and I'm using it as the basis to design my "fleet" around.

They also posted a supply ferry that uses an adapted model of the original fuel pod design, I think it shows what can be done as far as design ideas that use the fuel pods.

The idea is to design your ships so that when your fuel pod is empty, detach it and pickup another.

I may take the concept a step further and try to go with propulsion modules that could be swapped out in case of non-catastrophic collisions.

Anyway it's food for thought.
