US Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama

Recommended Posts

For them as don't know, there's a huge space and rocket facility in Huntsville, AL. That's what they call it now. In my misspent youth it was the Marshall Space Flight Center, and is part of the Redstone Arsenal. Anyway, this place has done a lot of the heavy lifting for the US space program, designing and testing everything from rocket engines to capsules. And today it has a very nice museum with all sorts of cool stuff in it, plus is home of "Space Camp".

During my vacation last week, I stopped in at this place (hadn't been there in 40 years). I took a bunch of pics which I thought I'd share with you all. Enjoy:

If I was only allowed to spend one day of my life in the US, I would defiantly spend it at one of these places. Either there or Kennedy Space Centre for an actual rocket launch! I hope you had an awesome holiday! :)

Anything to make it better is fine with me, but I don't understand what you're talking about.

The album identifier between the "[imgur][/imgurr]" tags, remove the "#0" in it. Basically, what's between them right now is this: XC5tw#0, well just change it for this: XC5tw

Did they still have the amusement park rides? When I visited in the 90's they had one that was basically 30 person 3G centrifuge, and one that was an open frame around a tower - that one threw you up into the air at about 3 G's and then you got to feel a few seconds of free fall. I remembered to take my glasses off at the very last second and then nearly lost them during the free fall portion.

I went about a month ago and the Space Shot (tower) and the Gravitron (I think that's what the centrifuge is called) still worked.
