Simple question regarding the next update

Recommended Posts

Hi.

The new update will not be compatible with the saves.

Will I be able to port my space station to the new save.

It's the only spacecraft I really want to save.

If the answer is yes, how do I do it?

I know how to do it for rockets. But not for a vessel that was built in orbit...

´

Thanks.

If Harvestr does come through with his save file conversion tool then you might, however this might not happen, and even if it does it might not work for you so short answer no but there is a small chance you could.

Besides the new update is a chance to do things better and bigger than before.

Assuming craft files still work, you can put all the modules of the station together in the VAB, transfer that craft into the 0.21 download (when it comes), and edit the persistence file to get it into the same orbit.

I think if the save file breaks, it means the format of the craft files will be different in the persistence file. Else, the devs would just have said "saves will break but you can copy/past your craft files in the new save files"

This. Though Harvester's updater might save the day.

Honestly though, with the game in alpha you can and should expect persistence file breakage now and again. It's a good thing, because it means that they're making major updates to the game. When it gets to the point that everything is fine from update to update they're down to polishing things up, which is really kind of boring in my opinion.

No, the save is breaking because the way kerbals are saved is being restructured. Because the file is breaking anyway, they're also making a number of miscellaneous changes that would break saves. There's been no particular indication that .craft files will break.

HarvesteR said .craft files won't break, so that's fine, however he did say that the save files or persistence files will be broken. What rryy proposed was to copy the code of the craft from the old persistence file to the new persistence file, which won't work, because you know, else save files wouldn't be broken much. And adding the code from a craft file to the persistence file won't work neither, the best bet is that Harv succeeds with his tool.
