So .21 isn't out yet. So why is it on YouTube?

Hi. I'm sick of scanning the internet for the .21 beta versions. I keep seeing people posting videos of .21 on YouTube, but I haven't seen anyone talking about a release of the .21 beta versions. Now it could be (and I have this belief) that I just haven't looked hard enough for said beta versions.

I don't care if it crashes my computer every 5 mins. I just want to get my hands on the new ASAS system so I can start flying planes in KSP (something I just can not do in the current versions) and hopefully make and fly one of these "space planes" I keep hearing so much about.

Now I know that putting it out as a general release on the main page would be a stupid idea. Because it will be filled with game-braking bugs that will piss off more people than is expected of a more refined model for release.

But no where have I seen a developer posting something like a "Here is the beta version. Don't bitch about bugs, because it's STILL IN GOD FORSAKEN BETA!!!!!"

All I really want to know is why are these YouTube people getting early releases that have bugs in them. Because then I see people making forum posts about how YouTube'r X had to deal with bugs. And they just bitch and whine about it like the pea brain fan boys they are.

I'm not asking for a faster release. O no quite the opposite. I would rather see it take a few more months so that when the final release comes out everyone gets what they really want. A new patch that adds a few new things and isn't full of bugs.

But I would like to be able to play an unfinished version of .21

I'm not going to whine. I'm not going to bitch. I just want to play the beta content in peace and avoid going on these forums or any other forums as much as possible.

Because hopefully, they're still fixing things. There's a group of youtubers who get special preview versions to promote the game.

They'd rather limit it to a certain amount of specially trusted users, to prevent the chance of fuss.

Because realistically, who wouldn't download the latest version, even if it was still needing tweaks.

What you are seeing is people who have access to the experimental version and are showcasing the improvements in 0.21.

The game is an alpha, so there are no betas.

0.21 has not been released to the general public yet. When it is, it will be announced on the KSP website and probably the forums as well.

This is a rather loaded post, the videos of .21 on youtube are from people who are in the media group to increase popularity of the game and the new release. They get an early version so they can share it with the masses. Of course, that version is not as bug-stomped as the later, public one.

Plus, if the developers have a version stable enough to give to the youtubers, it wont be too long before they will iron out the final bugs and be able to give it to us.

Well, these YouTubers are a part of what is called the "Media Group". They are chosen by Squad to get early access to experimental versions so that they can make videos. The groups who get early releases are the QA team, who get nightly builds, then the experimental team, who get experimental builds, and lastly the media group, who get release candidates. Back before 0.13, experimental releases were public. However, they were changed to a closed experimental sometime during the 0.14.x development, because, as you said, "it will be filled with game-braking bugs that will piss off more people than is expected of a more refined model for release". The only way to get access now is the join one of the groups mentioned above. The easiest to join is the experimental team, but application periods only come once every few releases and they only take applicants over 18 for legal reasons.

It is a very strange request to ask developers to release a beta of an alpha.

We are getting the least bug filled version of a bug filled uncomplete game. We are very lucky as it is.

That being said, there are parts of me that wish the new versions came out with far less build up. There is a lot of fanfare for every update, mostly fan driven but Devs do it as well, that at times will make it very difficult to play the game at the current version. If not difficult than with an undue measure of longing for features that seem just slightly out of reach. As of right now every time I see my control surfaces flutter like mad or I travel to the mun; I honestly get frustrated that I don't get C7 and Harvester's great work.

I am by no means saying that there should be no build up at all, there just comes a point when you can oversaturate with information. Almost like over watering your lawn.

Fair enough. That's kinda what I was hoping for. I just made the post on the off chance that I missed something.....Well that makes me sound coincided doesn't it?

Well at least I was wrong.

I may be the only person on earth that feels better about being wrong than right.....

Well I guess I can go back to not being on the forums again. Thank you for all your help.

If you're having issues with spaceplanes now, when others are not. Then I highly doubt the new ASAS will remedy the issue, and allow you to get a spaceplane to orbit... especially under 5 mins.

There is an experimental testing team. Certain experimental testers were given permission to publish content showcasing the new features 0.21 has to offer. Nothing more, nothing less. Ted will make a post within the next few days or a week explaining the testing process, how it works, and who's included. If you pay any attention at all to social media outlets, or use Steam, you'll know when the new build is released.
