The Most Certainly Unoffical KSP Trivia Thread

This is where you dump all the trivia about KSP you can think of. There was something like this, but it's over a month old at this point. I'll start.

Despite Squad classifying them as dwarf planets, Dres and Eeloo currently meet the International Astronomical Union's definition of a proper planet.

It is possible to climb both flag flag poles at the space center.

If you crash into the unclickable building at the KSC, it will say that the building is Mission Control.

For real??? I must do this!!!

Struts kill the decouplers' ejection force.

This only happens with stack separators. Normal decouplers work fine, but stack separators won't move at all if the two stages are strutted together.

You can place a docking port or radial attachment node on top of a parachute, allowing you to build things like escape towers with a stack parachute.

In EVA, space makes a Kerbal let go of a ladder, but Shift+space will have them push themselves away from a ladder!

Normally, a Kerbal in EVA will face the direction they are walking in, but if you press Alt, they will always face away from the camera!

And shift + w/a/s/d + space will have them push themselves in the specified direction. This allows to easily transfer between parallel ladders for example.

Jool is about the size of Earth in real life. Still want 1:1 planets?

Flags can be planted on top of KSC buildings.

It is in fact possible to build a stock space shuttle.

Planets in KSP are 11 times denser than in real life.

KSP fuels are around 5times more dense. (see here)

There is no stock part (full or empty) that have negative buoyancy (would sunk if placed on water).

Kerbin atmosphere was 35km high at first (up to around 0.8.4).

Moho had super thin and hot atmosphere at first. It made engines overheat and glow when even when off and on ground.

Double clicking on windows zooms the screen for better view.

Also funny that you mentioned shuttles since just today i finally managed a full shuttle mission stock. (on the ~fifth try since 0.17) :D

KSP doesn't actually provide any units for fuel volumes, so no direct comparison can be made. It can be assumed that each unit of fuel is actually 5 litres (which actually fills the volume of the tank quite nicely) and makes liquid fuel and oxidiser roughly comparable to RP-1 and LOx in terms of their properties, which makes more sense.

Kerbin's atmosphere was all the same pressure when it extended to 35km. It was essentially a thick shell of air that made it more efficient to go straight up until you left the atmosphere, and then burn parallel to the ground to get into orbit.

Nice shuttle by the way, it's quite an achievement to get one working nicely!

Laythe's atmosphere is 1,000m less than Kerbin's, even though it's smaller than Kerbin.

Laythe's atmoshpere is starts ~14km lower than Kerbin's. It scales with higher 1km less than Kerbin (4km compared to 5 on Kerbin)
