[18 Rockets and Counting!!] Early Rockets - From V2 to Atlas B

Recommended Posts

Hey, nice ships!

Just a suggestion...could you also make a Vanguard? I believe it was used in the US's first attempt to place a satellite in orbit, and blew up on the pad!

Again, nice replicas. File:Vanguard_rocket_vanguard1_satellite.jpg

If you look here - http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/44297-The-complete%28ish%29-history-of-rockets!-Recreating-the-entire-space-race-in-KSP!

You'll see I'm working through the entire space race! So Vanguard will be included

I think you're missing a small detail with the Thor missile - its missing the verniers beside the main engine.

Kinda like this (on my hastily and poorly built Thor-Able):

If you're interested, I built the rocket for attempts to do a gravity turn.

Thanks, had no idea they had them...I'll add them in the next version!

Holy crap, that thing has exactly one less part than Munbug!

Even more once I start adding payloads! But a lot of it gets left on the launchpad.

Could we get payloads for the Semyorka?

UPDATE!!!

As requested you now have the first two payloads for the R7 - Sputnik 1 and 2 (linked on a separate thread) as well as the Vanguard and the Juno 1 (Explorer) on this thread!

Download links updated.

These remind me of my roleplay rockets I made, with the first one in space being the BM-5a, the only spacecraft hidden from the public. All of them landed on KSC property. My last roleplay rocket came after the BM-5a, the BM-5 Apple. Roleplaying's fun. Especially with the ONE launch of the BM-1 Berry. It was unrecoverable.

You might like my space race thread then! Takes you through the development of space travel, I'm up to 1958 so far....

Not actually interested in it, though I might try when, WHEN my computer is fixed. Currently on my mother's so I can't play KSP. I'm tired of being inspired by you people because I don't have a computer to use. D:

Mulbin, will you find a way to recreate grid fins on your rockets ? :) a lot of russian rockets use them :P but it seems a bit hard to remake with current stock parts :(

I expect I'll come up with something that looks about the right shape but probably won't actually work as a fin. Some things just aren't possible in ksp

V2

Captured German V2s (and the captured scientists who made them) performed the earliest American launches in the space race. The V2 was also the first rocket in space in 1942... although no-one realised at the time as the definition altitude of space had not been defined!

Flight instructions...

1. go straight up.

2. scrape the edge of space.

3. fall back down!

4. Sometimes hit London.

Hello Mulbin, I am new to the KerbalSpaceForums, I love old rockets from the 1950-60s so I tried downloading these, but when I downloaded them the craft file turns into a txt file and will not work with KSP. Could you post a .zip with all the rockets so I can download them without turning the crafts into txts?
