Volt
I built a P-38 Lightning replica which I'm really pleased to find flies a lot like the real P-38. I know you're going to say, sigh, just another warbird, but this one has a targetting system I'm particularly proud of.Image GalleryMods:FARKerbal Aircraft Expansion (KAX)Procedural WingsSkillful Weapons/Combat Damage ModHullcam VDSI know the IRL P-38 had one 20mm cannon and four 12.7mm machine guns, but I didn't have a 20mm available and ground attack is the main mode of battle in WT, so I converted it to 2x500lb and 2x 30mm autocannon. It does a number on soft ground targets with that aiming point (the rounds hit a few mm below the end of the communotron when in hullcam mode). Flies happily at about 2/3rds throttle, a speed at which you'll be hard pressed to put it into an accelerated stall in a tight turn. It's lovely! Landing is a little more hairy; keep your approach speed around 250-300km/h IAS (I think ~75m/s IAS). And give it a good, aggressive flare just before touchdown. Hope you enjoy!Download Link

Bolter
Hello everyone,I haven't seen many ships for the Interstellar mod, so I figured I post my Jool-in-one craft for those that want to avoid multiple year-long missions to harvest all the science in the Jool SOI. This ship requires upgraded reactors, but you can get all the science you need from the Kerbin SOI if you focus on rockets, power plants and materials. The KSS Intrepid:It has the TWR and fuel to SSTO:Gets up there with enough fuel to make some of the closer planets by itself:This is the kind of dV you can get with a couple of liquid fuel tanks, though you want to take some LFO to refuel the lander:This is the refuel-able science lab lander for surface excursions to all the moons. It has one of each instrument tucked away in there:The only sketchy point of the mission is the landing on Tylo. Because of its high gravity and no atmosphere, you'll have to take the intrepid low and burn to 0-relative with the surface. Then you can detach the lander, get it clear, and boost back into LTO before you crash. You have to do it fast enough to get back to your lander so it doesn't crash. It only has about 1000m/s to land, as you'll need the other 3k to make it back to LTO. The Intrepid has a probe core on it, so you can take the ship to rendezvous with the lander even when there's no crew left onboard.A couple of points about the caring and feeding of the ship. It derives its main propulsion from a thermal rocket connected to an upgraded 3.75m Tokomak Fusion reactor. The green 2.5m Agilets fission plant is to power the lasers on the Tokomak. The fission reactor has enough fuel on-board for 480 days. It is highly recommended that you EVA to shut down/restart the fission reactor during the long inter-planetary coasting periods. Do remember to deploy the solar panels before your batteries run out, as you won't be able to restart the fission reactor with no power. The most important thing, however, is to always remember to shut down the tokomak after a burn. The reactor will power up automatically whenever you thrust up on the main engine, but it will NOT shut down automatically. If you leave it on for any length of time, it will overheat you ship very quickly. The radiators are only enough to dissipate the waste heat from the fission plant. The boards don't seem to let you upload files to a post, so PM if you want the ship files, or suggest a safe and free file hosting place and I'll edit the post with links.Enjoy,Bolter

Bolter
Howdy,Love that Titan! I wish B9 parts didn't crash my interstellar so badly. One day...The new Interstellar build changed engine and reactor performance significantly, so the KSS Intrepid exploration system needs a replacement.KSS DefiantHas the fuel and thrust to land and take off from EveHere's a mission to the surface of Duna, Ike and Kerbin return from the pad without refuelingHere it is with its exploration support module (launched separately, but can boost while docked to the Defiant.) It has a full reload of Liquid Fuel and Monopropellant, as well as living space. The module has a probe core, but its limited to RCS for mobility. Be carefull where you park it.The ship is built around the DT Vista engine. It consumes 2.5GW regardless of throttle setting, so it does need that 3.75m reactor and generator to operate. While the Vista has enough thrust to handle all airless bodies, it needs those eight turbojet nacelles to enhance its atmospheric performance to Eve return standards (deorbiting with 15Km/s dV showing.) Put the air-breathing engines on an action group so you can shut them off when they start running out of air, and restart them when you're through the fireball. Deploying and repacking the chutes on bodies with atmospheres saves lots of fuel.A note on its construction. A strut is required between the command pod and generator in order to cluster those material bays and goo canisters. Flat intakes and no radiators are required on the cockpit nacelle and its opposite counterpart because of the need to get the Kerbonaut back up the ladder, which is impossible with a tall intake. Also, fuel lines between the nacelles and the reactor are needed for docking port refueling.Enjoy!Bolter Edited October 20, 2014 by Bolter
Goddess Bhavani
Here's a light/medium tactical transport aircraft with walk-in interior volume that you can construct with minimal mods - you could swap out the Kethane-derived unducted fans with basic jet nacelles and she'll fly just as well. The fuselage is created from Procedural Fairings in order to be airworthy with FAR aerodynamics. This type of construction is CPU inefficient and made obsolete by 'modern' B9 parts but still fun to construct as an engineering exercise, as you need to build from scratch the interior structure to bear both static and inflight loads. She's in the same general size/weight class as a C-27J Spartan and small rovers can drive into the cargo bay. The interior structure has dozens upon dozens of hardpoints so you could take apart the fairing, reconfigure the interior systems in any way you wanted (like add vertical rockets for STOL capability) and put the fairing back on again in minutes. The name of the .craft file is a misnomer. I did want to create a C-130 class transport but upon completion underestimated the sheer (lack of) size for Kerbal-scaled aircraft. A 3 meter fuselage (shown below) looks big on screen and consists of 250+ parts but didn't add up to the intended design objective. I later built a 8 engined C-5 Galaxy type aircraft which had upwards of 540 parts.

volcanicshrimp
I also built a very small, very simple and very fast jet using OPT (for the engine), Mk2 expansion (for the cockpit) and adjustable landing gear (do I really need to say what I used that mod for?). It can get to 175 m/s by the time it reaches the space plane hangar and can take off at 50 m/s. It can also tailsit if you're a better pilot than me. The only bad thing about it is that you have to be very careful at high altitudes not to vaporize yourself!Javascript is disabled. View full albumIgnore the mysterious glow underneath, idk what that is.I may build an armed version as well (It could probably catch up with almost any fighter really quickly, has a very short takeoff distance and could probably use the SR-71 missile avoidance strategy even at low altitudes) and I'm working on a spaceplane version using the insanely powerful advanced turboramjet engine to get into a suborbital trajectory, saving rocket fuel. JJJacksonTyler
Hi Guys! This is my first pack released for other players, so I hope you enjoy.I call it "Conceptual Saturns".Being an avid Orbiter Spaceflight Simulator player, I found myself attracted to the idea of recreating some of the amazing Saturn family rockets in Kerbal Space Program. So, using nothing more than F.A.S.A and TweakScale, I have completed the first of three Phases of launcher packs. These, are the "Early Saturns". Leading up to the Saturn IB and Saturn V that eventually flew astronauts into space, these launchers never actually flew - but were considered greatly on the papers of the engineers down at the Marshall Spaceflight Center in the early 1960's.Included in this pack are 5 unique launchers. The Saturn A-1The Saturn A-1 (never built) was to get large-booster capability as quickly as possible by using a Titan II first stage as the second stage, atop the Saturn booster. A Centaur upper stage finished the stack. Payload was an earth-orbital Apollo capsule, or a notional payload with fairing. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Saturn B-1The Saturn B-1 (never built) attempted to build a larger booster with existing stages. Atop the S-I stage was a cluster of Titan second stages, then the S-IV stage, then a Centaur. Quite a tower of Babel, it was. However, I could not, for the life of me - ensure a stable design with the Saturn I stage under the cluster of 4 Titans, so I have made a special edit to this rocket to instead make the Titan cluster the first AND stage - using 4 entire Titan II rockets, both stages and all. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Saturn C-2The Saturn C-I used the original Saturn S-1 stage with the "high-energy" Saturn S-4 stage. This is the rocket which became the Saturn I, and eventually the Saturn-Ib. The Saturn C-2 would have upgraded the C-1 by putting a high-energy stage between the first stage and the S-IV upper stage. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Saturn C-3The mid-size Saturn C-3 would probably have been the choice to assemble an EOR-based lunar mission. Basically a C-2, but with an upgraded first stage that used 2 of the powerful F-1 engines.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Saturn C-5The rocket that launched Apollo...except, as originally conceived, with only an S-IV upper stage. ***IMPORTANT***Required Mods!: F.A.S.A, and Tweakscale. This is for 1.0.4, and uses the latest versions of those mods (as of August 25th, 2015)Each .craft has a detailed description in it's description box in the VAB, also included - a "test pilot's notes" on how the vehicle behaves, ect.It is my belief that you should read these before launching. And all bombs and missiles pack enough wallop to destroy a building.edit: Here a few more pics of the Narwhal in action https://imgur.com/a/DyQMe Edited October 9, 2015 by Zoophagous Added the album at the end
Zoophagous
This is my attempt at making Ion engines useful, the MITS(Modular Ion Tug Spacecraft) it can be expanded pretty much forever but at a certain size it become difficult to re orient without RCS or two specialized RCS tug units. It honestly doesn't improve the burn times for getting out to Jool any more than a minute or two over just one MITS unit but it had enough panels that you can run it full throttle all the way out in the Jool zone for going moon to moon.https://imgur.com/share/a/yoDoqThis configuration is the one I used to go to Jool and back.
