I stick to a generic idea of saying what the landing was, who did it, what craft was used, and any special tidbits, like if it was a rescue mission, and so forth.

Usually something along the lines of "blablabla we came in peace for most of kerbalkind".

My first Mun plaque details the landing in much detail, and then states that the flag was not planted because of the Mun landing, but because of the new flag-planting technology that was developed.

After my first v.20 landing on the Mun:

"First landing of Kerbal-kind on another world. In memory of Jebediah Kerman, and Bob Kerman who died so that others may triumph. And also Ansel Kerman who died stupidly trying to plant a flag for Jeb and Bob."

And a Futurama reference:

My last landing had something slightly Kerbal in nature.

"Shoot for the Mun. Even if you miss, you'll land on Minmus, like we did."

Technically, they DIDN'T miss the Mun, it was a Mun orbit to Minmus.
