Duna Rocket assist glider.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Ive been working on this glider for a while now and I finally decided to try and land it on Duna.

She flies wonderfully in Kerbin atmosphere, very stable and highly manuavarable. You can land at high speeds (+100ms) and just

slam on the brakes and she will come to a quick and controllable stop.

This, as yet, unnamed glider comes with a rocket assist motor to keep your speed up and for take offs mid flight.

So, I put a rocket together with two nuke engines and sent her on her way to Duna.

Here she is in low Duna orbit after having transferred Jeb to the command seat

She remained stable throughout the reentry and I kept her level as my altitude decreased, Jeb approves

It took a while to scrub off enough speed to land on the now very bumpy Duna surface but after a few close calls she touched down at a

safe 40m/s. I chose a slight uphill spot as this would assist my braking and stabillity.

And landed!

I could use the rocket engine to taxi around the surface and take off again to explore the planet. The fuel goes MUCH further on Duna.

I got up to around 300-350m/s at level flight up around 3000m altitude.

All in all a huge success!

God I love this this game. :D
