Any way to adjust multi-directional thrusters?

I was thinking of designing a ship based on the Eagles from the old show Space 1999. I want the main thrusters on the bottom like a normal rocket but I also want 'adjustable' thrusters on the back. I know I can put the thrusters on a custom action and turn them on and off but is there any way to make them adjustable so I can adjust the speed level on the second axis?

I didn't understand quite well, but if I got what You mean, try using LSHIFT+W/A/S/D/Q/E ( Hold shift and press on any of these buttons )

No, your throttle controls the thrust for all active engines.

You could "modulate" the thrusters by switching the action group off and on really fast. That seems kerbal enough.
