Dream of Games as Yet Unheard of

Probably the game that has influenced me the most was Civilization. I played the Civ 1 version as an undergraduate. However, my passion for this game combined with the demands of graduate school led me to a difficult resolution: to desist from _all_ gaming until after I had finished graduate school. That was a good solid ten years from immediate post-baccalaureate until I started gaming again (1993 to 2003). When I returned to gaming, it was of course the latest Civ of that day to which I turned, Civ3. Civ3 with the Conquests expansion was, IMO a pretty close to perfect strategy game, and I have played in the years since then, many, many different computer strategy games (strategy board games were a hobby in high school).

One day I would like to see a game that comprised a fusion of an historical simulation game such as Civ with the space flight and exploration features of KSP.

Basically: Imagine Civilization with KSP. Wouldn't that be AWESOME!?

Supreme Ruler series, or Europa could just as well serve as the 'model', though I think the inclusion of culture, technology, espionage, religion, etc. in Civ 4 would make for an excellent fusion with a space sim like KSP. Games like Galactic Civlizations or Distant Worlds could suffice as the model to 'fuse' with on the other end of the historical developmental continuum.

I have no idea what Squad would think of this, but it almost seems to me that the planetary 'canvas' has been left intentionally 'blank' for some reason.

Just imagine a game where you start in the era of Galileo, and guide your society through both competition with other societies, and guiding of your research and intellectual development toward interstellar ascendance. It seems to me that the KSP engine would suffice VERY well for the period after flight and all the way through faster than light travel, and in the long run, perhaps even galactic colonization?

I have 3 games that i've always dreamed of making:

Super Coup Simulator

Self-Explanatory

Call of Duty: Padded Chair

(NOTE: Completely stolen from The Colbert Report without any remorse or regret)

Sit in a padded chair looking at a radar screen. When enemy ICBM's appear on said screen, you have to push a big shiny red button that launches missiles to disable the incoming ICBM. There are no sounds that appear when an ICBM is sighted and you have to discern ICBMs from aircraft. You also have to choose the right missile for the job, too small and the ICBM won't be destroyed, too big and civil unrest happens. Furthermore, "voices" in your "head" tell you to push the button for various reasons. If you push the button prematurely or when there are no ICBM's, you lose and any save games that are present are automatically wiped off your memory card.

Super Mario Reality

Mario with real physics and health characteristics.

I want a game where you have to run for president and then control your guy in office you can choose many customizable features and then take on real life challenges

Actually, Matrix Games makes one like that . . . lemme see . . . Democracy.

Actually, I have no idea what you mean by "Super Coup Simulator." You mean like coup d'état?

I would like to see a fighting game, whereby you and your opponent have super human (punching people through entire office buildings) strength, set in a dense city, and the game uses both Euphoria (seen in GTA IV, and Red Dead: Revolution, among others) and GeoMod 2.5 (the destruction engine in Red Faction: Armageddon).

I have two ideas:

1: A game where you assemble a pixelated 2D rocket and launch people, satellites, and space stations (the flight is done automatically but you can switch to manual control). I'm working on the sprite and data sheets.

2: A game where you colonize planets, and can colonize multiple planets with one ship. You must take every factor of the planet (temperature, water percentage, surface area, composition, etc.) into account, and decide how many people you want to offload to a planet. You can also unlock new ships, with different pros and cons.

So the idea of playing Civilization on Kerbin and then following up by colonizing the solar system doesn't sound appealing?

ADDIT: and now I feel like a jackass, as I realize the way I titled this thread, you guys naturally thought that is what I intended for it. I mean, I was joking about not posting your new game ideas ;)

Some interesting ideas here. The one about punching people through buildings sounds kinda cool.

Still I think my idea is the best!

An aeronautical engineering simulator, for example, you start with certain amount of funds, can research aerodynamics, engines, fuel efficiency, materials, etc

You also make the shape of your aircraft but you can get a more aerodynamic version (not completely aerodynamic perfection, your design gets CLOSER to perfection, so you just can't make a square and press the button and the more irregularity the more the cost) of the shape by pressing a button (which costs some money), you buy wind tunnels, materials, hire scientists, engineers, building and paint workers and more of the such.

The game would have an extremely realistic aerodynamic model, terrain and scenery.

There are contracts but you can also make design planes without getting asked for and it would get purchases according to the efficiency, cost, etc

The contracts would be specific, for example, a country's air force want you to make a cheap cargo transport plane with the ability to land on harsh or damaged runways while being more effective than C-130. Of course, there would be numbers noted on a tab on effectiveness of each aspect of the C-130 and cost for example.

The customization would be huge (you would actually be able to pick paint and such small things from landing gear suspension/shock absorbing system to the cockpit but you would also be able to pick a pre-made one) and things would actually change with your choices, and if you add something, there are consequences, more height, more fuel expense per mile, more cost, etc, etc and etc.

A fun thing would be being able to test them, flying with cockpit view, 3rd person view, etc.

I always want something like this, you might say "there's KSP already" but this game has a different approach from KSP, making flying exploding machines is actually bad and there are consequences, unless a contract wishes for something like that and KSP is about space.

Civilization with KSP

God that would be awesome.

THANK YOU!! *blubbers*

Actually that does sound pretty fun, especially if it combined flight sim functionality like say MS Flight Sim X.

I can't help but feel like a bit of a hypocrite (or at least I think that this is very ironic). I posted a thread on another forum about my type of super awesome game of a certain genre, and I was expecting to get feedback on my concept, but instead everyone posted about their ideas on the perfect game of said genre.

Well, I just followed the example of others and the title :P

Sorry for this

EDIT: Oh I thought you were OP... Nvm them...

LOL, not a big deal guys :)

Go ahead with the ideas! Its not like we are actually going to get Squad and Sid Meier's to sit down at the table and start hashing it out, even if every user on this site jumped in here and agreed that Civilization + KSP would be awesome.

The idea that I had is for a huge real-time war game taking place on a map that zooms into Google maps level. At the biggest zoom setting you move sliders such as environmentalism, industrialism, military etc. and your country builds procedural cities and places its armies automatically. YOu have limited control and more set the "direction" of your country rather than control it directly. You are essentially a real life president/prime minister. When war breaks out you can zoom in and watch your armies fight the other countries but it's all run automatically and you just give vague instructions to your general, you cant command individual units.

I want a game that settles and develops terrain like Civilization, but your cities are built like SimCity, and when conflict arises you fight battles like the Total War system.

That...would....be.....the...best...game....ever!

You mean something like supreme ruler? Most boring thing ever.

You should check out the Supeme Ruler series. Not exactly the fine grained level you are describing. But the game map is an ACCURATE map of Earth divided into like 25km hexes!!

Whaaa??? I LOVE Supreme Ruler!! Only reason I'm not playing it right now is I played it SOOO much I burned out and then started discovering new games.

If you like strategy and tactics games it is AMAZING!

Add "unit" customization/design and KSP to that mix and YES! you've got the best game ever :)

Woah, that game looks really good!

If Supreme Ruler series seems appealing I HIGHLY recommend it. Suggest starting with the 2020 one (or whatever it is) NOT the Cold War one. That is the order in which I did them and I think you'll get the most mileage out of it that way. Both are awesome games, but the 2020 is the older one and _slightly_ more simplified. Great forum community too.

On and one more thing: I suggest playing as Egypt. Great starter nation, not too powerful, not too weak and with lots of potential. Good learning starter position in both games actually.

Civ and KSP, an awesome concept. It's sort of what I was expecting Spore to be in 2005, after watching the original concept anyway. Wasn't too impressed with the game it turned into.
