Building in Orbit

Is there any other way to connect parts in orbit than just docking ports? Can I add support struts, etc? Thanks.

Unfortunately no, it would be neat if our kerbals could build struts in orbit but at the moment there is no way to connect parts except via docking.

There is a mod called "quantem struts" that allows you to build more stable stations. But in stock ksp, currently docking ports are the only way to go.

Thanks, all. I'll stick with the standard stuff for now. I've still got to practice more at docking anyway.

I admit it's a shameless plug, but perhaps my in-game docking tutorial can help you with getting docking practice. (see signature)

You could construct a form of ring around your stations docking ports with a hole in at the top and bottom. Then attach two sideways struts next to the docking port on your ship. When you move your ship to dock, move the sideways struts thourgh the holes in the ring, then before you dock rotate your ship so the sideways struts get locked behind the other parts of the ring. Makeshift lock :-).
