I want to start making cinematics - editing software?

The title nails it - I'm starting a cinematic effort- but i don't know what editing software to use. Must be free

I used to make some videos with Sony Vegas,but I've heard "after effects" is a good program too.

Don't take my youtube videos seriously,I did them once when I was bored,without internet.They're just parodies of "omg skill" videos :3

I really like VideoPad and they've got a pretty good demo period IIRC. I don't do anything crazy but they have lots of effects and transitions, and after an hour or two learning the interface it's very intuitive. Which is probably an oxymoron but oh well What I'm trying to say is, I was swearing at how hard it was to use for 20 minutes, spent the next 20 minutes noticing that even though it was hard to use, some of the things made sense based on what I needed to do, and then spent the final 20 minutes smiling and nodding as things snapped into place.

Various OS/ platforms include some image editing software. If yours does not, check into open source products.
