Larger Vehicle Assembly Area??

If you select the root part, you can drag the whole craft upwards or downwards. It'll clip into the ground if need be, so vertical space shouldn't be an issue. I can't imagine what kind of monstrosity you're building that is taller than the VAB, though!

Its not really that my rocket is too large for the building, but it is too tall for the camera to comfortably work around the very top of it. What would be really useful is if there was an up and down camera pan, instead of always circling a focus point

To elaborate, you can pan up and down with the mouse scroll wheel. And you can zoom in and out if you hold down the Shift key and use the scroll wheel.

ah, I dont have a scroll wheel, ive been just using mousepad and keyboard
Page Up/Down will scroll vertically in the VAB. But really invest in a mouse with a scroll wheel.

No scroll wheel, then you're missing out on some "mouse button 3" action!! :D

I've never understood why the VAB has a roof at all in build mode. Although, it is very rare that I come close to the ceiling.

PROTIP: You can hold SHIFT while clicking on any part to drag the craft, not just the root part.

Cheers!

But we hear birds. Nobody likes to find birdie doo-doo in their capsule.

I heard originally that the VAB didn't have a roof, and it wasn't until they put one on that they even considered the external seat part being used. The kerbals were too scared of being pooed on!

No rain without clouds.

I have to add:

The VAB is 526 feet (160.3 m) tall, 716 feet (218.2 m) long and 518 feet (157.9 m) wide. It covers 8 acres (3 ha), and encloses 129,428,000 cubic feet (3,665,000 m3) of space.[6]

The building has at least 10,000 tons of air conditioning equipment, including 125 ventilators on the roof supported by four large air handlers (four cylindrical structures west of the building) to keep moisture under control. Air in the building can be completely replaced every hour. The interior volume of the building is so vast that it has its own weather, including "rain clouds form[ing] below the ceiling on very humid days",[7] which the moisture reduction systems are designed to minimize.

Located on Florida's Atlantic coast, the building was constructed to withstand hurricanes and tropical storms with a foundation consisting of 30,000 cubic yards of concrete and 4,225 steel rods driven 160 feet into limestone bedrock.
