Manoeuvre Nodes

Recommended Posts

When you set out a manoeuvre node, are you able to set 'control from here' and have the kerbals do it for you :sticktongue: . I'm to afraid to try for myself, because if the kerbals don't do it at all, or go the wrong way, end of mission :P

Control From Here just means it sets the nav-ball alignment to be as if looking from that perspective.

If you have two controlling modules (two command pods, lets say) facing back-to-back, it lets you pick the one that is facing forward as your refernce point. So you don't have all the controls backward.

No' date=' there is no automation built into the game that would execute a node maneuver.

Cheers!

This might turn into a suggestion, but will there ever be any automation built in (I don't really like downloading plugins in-case it goes wrong (then I'll have to re-download the whole thing.))

There have been some past comments that kerbals might eventually possess (and improve over time) skills that will let you assign certain tasks to them. Perhaps there will be a Navigation skill that concerns how accurately they can perform a maneuver you planned. Bill might get the maneuver to within 0.1m/sec of the goal, for example, while Bob can only get to within 2m/sec. So, you'd let Bill handle the transfer burns. But Bob might be better at Piloting, so he can make gentler landings, or land closer to your desired touch-down point.

And you don't have to download KSP again if a plugin has problems... just delete that plugin from the Gamedata folder.

Something I've learned in my 290 hours of KSP is:

We spend a lot of time doing the math and science behind a ship build and the course it's gonna take to get to its destination. We figure out the phase angle, the ejection angle, the D-V requirements, the TWR requirements, the burn time, and so on.

Then we do it. It's never perfect. It's only close enough and close enough is good enough. I was so nervous for my first interplanetary burn to Eve. Of course, I messed it up and ended up in a 180 degree orbit without enough fuel to get home. But I got there... that's the first step. I learned so much from that very first one. The second one sucked too, but it was better. Many burns later and I understand it to the point of it being just another burn.

Point is, if you stray a little from your blue node marker on the navball, close enough will be good enough. If you don't burn exactly the amount of D-V the node tells you, close enough is good enough. The more you do it the better you will become at it.
