Yesterday, one of the world's most popular online games, League of Legends, was hacked, with usernames, EMAIL ADDRESSES, passwords and over 120,000 CREDIT CARD NUMBERS STOLEN. If you just lose your League of Legends account and start getting spam, of course, that's not the end of the world. But if you have ever made a transaction on LoL, YOUR FINANCIAL INFORMATION MAY BE AT RISK. I only found out about this because my brother used to play the game, and still technically holds an account on my email address. We were lucky we never made any transactions.

I thought this was an important notice. Riot Games has sent out notices, but you may not receive them for various reasons. I would suggest changing your email and LoL account passwords, and checking with your local bank.

As an avid LoL player, that was uncalled for.

Anyway, the one good thing that came of this is that Riot was prompt and clear in explaining the situation (unlike Sony's PSN debacle, etc.), so while it is unfortunate this event happened I also respect Riot for being honest about what happened.

Please read the article thoroughly, its for transactions from 2011 and earlier, and both CC numbers and passwords are salted. Its still a serious issue, but its not 'urgent' though you should of course take all the normal precautions like changing passwords (and not re-use them) and check your accounts regularly to make sure nothing is happening. Riot should be contacting you if you were affected.
