Why does this craft lag?

Recommended Posts

This is a grand tour vessel I built. The plan is to use the attached ketholanders to refuel and some other, more all-purpose landers for doing the actual landings and flag planting.

It's only around 150 parts but I'm getting somewhere around 5 FPS.

WHY!!!!! I can launch a 300 part craft just fine with no lag (soon as terrain unloads). I've had bigger space stations than this.

Note, those are KOSMOS panels there and they are a mod I've had for a while but never really used. Could they be the problem?

Sysyem specs, just in case:

Intel i7 2.2GHz quad core w/hyperthreading

8 GB RAM (1333MHz I think)

NVidia graphics

Windows 7 premium 64 bit

From what I've heard from other builders, lights and solar panels really kill framerate, and it looks like you've got quite a few lights there. Maybe try removing the lights and test the framerate again?

Yes, too many lights can kill FPS. There are ways to counter this in graphics settings and I did since KSP does not yet properly GPU offload.

The thing is not overstrutted and there are only a total of 8 lights on at the moment, just what I need to light up the docking hub.

KOSMOS has caused me nothing but trouble. I think I'm gonna take those off with whackakerbal and replace the drive stage and hab stage.

That usually isn't a problem until I hit at least 200+ parts. Yes, it is set up in a 100km orbit ATM. I don't want to boot it too high because I have to add the main landers and then the auxilary fuel canister for the transfer to Moho (or maybe I should just jump to Eve, top off and Gilly, then jump to Moho and officially initiate my grand tour)
