I dunno, the Scythe is still getting downloads... But yeah, the thread has been quiet for a while... Maybe I should have stuck it in the dropship dealership page instead. :confused:

Anyway... *Grabs the new scythe and the tanker and starts circumnavigation*

Also, you could probably do your circumnavigation twice if you refuel this time :)

Okay, this time I'm going to do it... I'm going to make it round twice... Either that or I'll kill Jeb trying... See you on the other side. :)

:) There we are, made it! As I suspected it was my terrible piloting that was letting the team down. :blush: This time however I was extra careful to squeeze out every last puff from the jet. The annoying part is by the time I was coming in to land I still had a lot of fuel left over, I estimate I would have been able to do 4 circumnavigations of Kerbin had I kept going... ;.; Oh sorry, to anyone that's reading this, um.. M.Wolfy challenged me to take the Scythe on a circumnavigation of Kerbin, this is my 2nd attempt at it.

Niiiice. Thanks for updating this.

For a start, your new tanker is definitely the best looking refuelling rover I have lined up near the runway. But I'm seriously either going to have to start building some kind of universal refueller, or install something like KAS!

I still needs lots of practice at landing VTOLS - It took me way too long to get this close - and it was one hell of a bumpy landing, but I gotta say that the Mk3 Scythe is durable enough even for my rough skills!

Great pics! Glad to see you're making good use of the ship. That massive tanker you've got in orbit will be able to keep that Scythe running for another 20 years at least. :D It's always a bit surreal seeing pics of other people using my designs, it's like they have a whole secret life that I don't know about. :wink: Plus they do seem to turn up in some very odd places.

I had an absolutely terrible experience with this. I started it and the first thing it did was flip over backwards. Thanks a lot FAR.

Um yeah, it was kind of built and tested with the stock aerodynamic model in mind. Sorry. :(

I will play around with this in my stock install because I want to try and fail to fly around the R&D.

Sweet, just don't forget to press 0 before you set off. :wink: You might also want to play around with the Banshee Mk2 trainer, it's better set up for low altitude exuberance.

I got a strange issue today with the mk3, it just explode as soon as physics are stabilized on the runway :/ Does it sounds familiar to you Cupcake ?

Or it's kind of weird new issue ?

It's with a 0.23 with some mods, but vessel has not been modified AFAIK. Tested on another install (with more mods), the same.

That is strange, the only time I've had that happen is when there was a piece of debris on the runway that for some reason didn't get cleared. :confused: Also is the landing gear down? If the ships resting on its engine it'll probably go bang.

My only other guess is that the craft file somehow got corrupted, maybe try re-installing it? Anyway, I'll look into it ASAP.

The problem should be fixed now, I think I just put the wrong version of the file in the Scythe Mk3 archive that didn't come with the landing gear down. :blush: Anyway, give it a try and let me know if you have any more trouble. BTW I've just tried it in 0.23.5 and it seems fine. :)

1. the action group 1 seems to be "air sync" only, but there is too much intakes to see the full list, what I do know for sure is the turbo-jet engine does not start with this key,

2. despite its 110 KN, the turbo-jet engine is unable to lift the craft on its own at runway ground level, but it's good when the craft reach 3-4000 kms altitude.

Perhaps it has been designed this way,

3. the staging are not in a meaningful order, the monop tanks are dropped first, BEFORE the additional LF/Ox tanks which are more likely to be useless first.

This craft is just the best sci-fi look craft made with stock part yet AFAIK, and I really would like to have the nicest, perhaps the best too, craft of this kind.

A variant could be to add engines (jet) in the back, "inside" the RAM intakes, and/or even on the two "arms", just some parts to create a bit of lift (hidden to keep the black look) and it will be the most amazing craft in KSP :).

Hey Justin,

Let's see if we can get you flying. :wink:

1) You need to press 0 to activate air sync and then press 1 to start the jet engine, otherwise you'll flame out.

2/3) The Scythe isn't designed to lift both the RCS Pods and drop tanks at the same time. Before you start a mission you should choose between one or the other or the craft will be too heavy to lift off. I set the RCS Pods to drop first as I imagine most people would rather use the drop tanks.

Anyway, see how you get on with that, I think I've covered most of this stuff in the manual on the OP so have a quick look there if you have any more issues. Cheers. :)

Oh I've used the Mk3 plenty, just not the most recently tweaked version Cupcake posted. :)

I took it on a trip to Minmus and back yesterday to test it in 0.23.5. Good times. :cool:

OK, sorry for my bad issue report.

I've tried to go to orbit, without strictly following the SSTO mission profile and didn't make it (kind of a punishment :) ).

Does both Scythe mk2/mk3 and Stratos can be use the exact same way ? Cause you just copy & paste the same text (missing the Stratos name for the Scythe) and they are quite not the same.

Stratos T is also nice to fly with.

I took it on a trip to Minmus and back yesterday to test it in 0.23.5. Good times.
