The Munar Freighter Challenge

Squeal

Recommended Posts

As part of KSP\'s mission to to explore further into space, they are constructing a Munar refueling station. However, this fuel does not grow on trees, and so you are tasked with delivering fuel to the Mun. We\'ll pick it up once it is there, so don\'t worry about where you put it.

Your freighters will be rated on two things:

  • [li]The total capacity of all full fuel tanks that are intact on the Mun [/li]
[li]The cost-to-fuel ratio, fuel calculated under the same criteria as above[/li]

Criteria:

  • [li]No return trip needed, your crew will hitch-hike on the next freighter to arrive[/li]
[li]Images must be supplied of every stage, un-cropped[/li]
[li]NovaPunch and vanilla parts only (I could maybe add more if balanced and people want it)[/li]
[li]Just to repeat: Only full tanks are calculated[/li]

Now then, build some rockets that will make Jeb proud!

The costs in NovaPunch are not balanced, and so it seems to only make sense to use the very largest fuel tanks. I used this Lifter deign to get 17.7% (11 of 62 pixels) of a FL-T3000 tank to Mun. That\'s 1770 units of fuel delivered for a cost of 8400 ($4.75 each please).

Once you manage to gather up all the tanks there are 6 full tanks and 3 nearly full tanks on the surface.

Total Rocket cost: 136422 (money could be saved by removing the parachute)

Full tanks landed: 6

Partial tanks landed: 3 (equaling a total of 2.325 tanks[there would have been four, but one exploded])

Units of fuel in full tanks: 3000

Units of fuel in partial tanks: 1162.5

Cost per unit counting only full tanks: 45.474

Cost per unit counting all fuel: 32.774

All stock parts.
