Fairing for atomic engine.

Recommended Posts

I nearly always kit my interplanetary missions out with an atomic engine, followed by mainsails. The problem I have is that the atomic engine's fairing is small, so I usually have to strut together my stages like this

[...........] fuel tank

[...........]

[...........]

[...........]

|....[.]....| atomic engine with struts

|....[.]....|

|....[.]....|

[...........] decoupler

This looks incredibly ugly and I would like the option of a fairing to cover the gaps in my rocket. I don't think fairings mods can do this (might be wrong). The fairing would be a sort of "donut" unit

there is a need of a lot of fairings in vanilla, and don't come saying that there is a plenty of mods around there, this is the suggestion part of the forum I'm not requesting add-on's...

So yes, these fairings and a thousand more should exist in vanilla KSP. +1.

I agree with "custom size fairings" for vanilla. That is, in the editor, you can change the diameter of the fairing between 1.25 and 2.5 meters, and for probe engines, also 0.625 meters. Meanwhile, the procedural fairings mod also adds interstage fairings that can be used for this purpose.

Please read the OP. It's a very specific type of fairing that I'm requesting. Link two large tanks with a atomic engine in between and you'll see what I mean. A donut shaped fairing is needed to contain the atomic engine.

Not sure what you mean by "donut shaped fairing". Donuts are curved in every direction, don't you want the assembled fairings to look like a cylinder that is flush with the tanks?

The procedural Fairings mod does allow linking two large tanks with a smaller engine in between.
