Locked Docking Ports

Recommended Posts

http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198073552435/screenshots/ Not sure if this screen shot will work but... Problem I am hav'n is I need to swap out liquid rocket I docked with orbing station to fuel up docked space planes with the last fusion rocket close by in orbit to complete this Interplanetary Station.. But in-line and shielded docking ports are now frozen in locked position on the liquid fuel rocket and station.. (Docking Bug?) Since this station has multiple ships docked together, I cannot find this station in quicksave fsf. files, nor persistent fsf. files. Even after (ctrl-f) search.. Nor any of the ships in this station in VAB saved ships. Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated, as I do NOT want to go thru all the time again to re-do this Interplanetary Station. Thanks to all that reply.

First: I would really appreciate it, if you cared a bit more about your layout. It would vastly improve the reading experience.

Second: I hope I can solve your problem. If I got it right, you are trying to rearrange your space station and struggle to undock a vessel. To undock you simply have to right click on the docking port your ship is attached to and press "undock" (As seen in your upper image) . The "locked" status only shows, that the shielded port is locked in the opened or closed position. It is nothing to worry about.

Have a nice day and keep kerbal ^^

First: You got it wrong. My Layout?? Your reading experience is not my concern. If you took the time to comprehend this you would see the port is in the 'locked' position. by RIGHT CLICKING dose NOT undock.. By doing what you suggest doesn't solve the problem. But I do appreciate your reply, even tho it is mundane.

calm down, getting agitated will not help anything.

I have certainly never heard if this type of docking bug before. Dokcing only came in when? .18 or .19? Either way, it's still new and still somewhat buggy. I am not sure exactly what could cause shielded ports to be locked. Perhaps the sheild was somehow closed while docked (though that should be impossible) and that is locking it from opening again. Also, don't get onto NewHope for asking you to re-arrange your post. It helps a lot for us to help you if the info is well organized and presented.

EDIT: have they ever been opened before and are they tied to an action group?

There was a bug back in 0.19 ans 0.20 where a ship docked to a ship docked to a ship would cause a bug in the savefile and block undock on one of the ports in the chain.

My fix for it was finding which port in the chain was still working and undock/redock it. but that took me a good half-hour of persistent file search to find it.

undock/redock needs at least 1meter separation to make the docking magnets work again.

You are experiencing the well-known, yet unfixed, Undocking Bug.

It is a frustrating, fun-killing bug that Squad has not addressed. I would think that it would take about 30 minutes of some dev's time to find, fix, and test. My sincerest wish is that Squad cares enough about the bugs in the current version that they fix these things in alpha version 0.22. Shiny new toys and features are nice, but I'd rather they fix bugs.

First: You got it wrong. My Layout?? Your reading experience is not my concern. (...)

Hi Skee,

Without wanting to put too much emphasis on this part of the discussion... the reading experience is your concern.

It determines if people will read your question or not. The more people reading your question, the higher the chances that there is somebody in the population of readers who will [a] know the answer and cares to answer it in a comprehensive way. Converserly, if nobody cares to read your question, you can be certain that there will be no answer. Or you get the wrong answer, because people do not understand your question in the first place, or assume you didn't try certain things.

If you care about getting an answer, you should care about the way you post your questionâ€â€concise, leaving out unneccesary details and clarifying what already has been tried (to prevent getting the wrong answer).

The docking ports on my space station are frozen in "locked" position and cannot undock. This applies to both inline docking ports as well as the shielded ports on docked ships. [problem description]

Right-clicking on the ports shows that they are in a "locked" state, and clicking "undock" when it's available doesn't do anything. The station is powered and crew is available, so I should be able to undock I think [describing what you already tried and looked into]

If it helps, here's a picture of it. I tried editing quicksafe.fsf and persistent.fsf files but I was unable to locate the space station. I don't want to rebuild my station from scratch, and besides, it could happen again! Help! [Further information that might help and call for action]

Which of the two will give you more, and better, answers, do you think? The original post, or the modified version above? Putting some thought in how you post your message when you rely on others to read it is really worth the effort!

I could've given you the fix straight off the bat since it's a known issue, but since you wrote the above it would be pointless so I didn't bother replying. But I thought I'd put it out there now since you haven't gotten it fixed yet.

Unless you're capable of sifting through your own persistent file you'd have to upload it for someone else to fix.

Thanks for all the reply's to this problem, it is greatly appreciated. I apologize for the abruptness as this has put a big damper on this fun game. I have replaced 3 of the 4 liquid fueled rockets with the 3 existing docked fusion rockets and there was not a glitch with undocking the shielded docking ports on the nose of the rockets to the in-line ones on the station. Screenshots I hope work. But when I got to the 4rth and final docking procedure the ports just refused to undock. Either by taking control of the station and undocking from there, or controlling the liquid rocket and trying to undock from there. Those attempts failed. All systems are powered up. I have researched this (docking bug) and have searched my persistent fsf files. But I will try the above suggestions and again I thank you for the help. May my Kerbals survive this... lol http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198073552435/screenshots/ http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198073552435/screenshots/ I hope these screenshots show both ports are in the locked position and any attempts to undock them has failed so far, but I will do a full search of my persistent fsf. files and try the above suggestions and hopefully will find a solution to this problem. Again I apologize for my abruptness and thanks to all who have replied...:)
