Aircraft Emergency Parachute.

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't a parachute to help land vehicles brake be great? Just a small parachute that has no 'full' deployment to rip things to shreds if they're going above 70m/s and can actually open at ground-level: helps to slow down things on the ground without brakes potentially tipping them over and to slow aircraft down for landing and land extremely small probes...

Actually, parachutes didn't disappear as soon as you touched the ground until 0.18.

Until 0.17, you could land a plane using parachutes.

I know. And I think we should have a part that behaves as .17 since we can't use parachutes like that anymore...

I regret not having this feature too, for airstrip dragsters as well as aircraft, among other things. Would be a nice improvement to the game's stock of chutes. Devs might have an annoying time working out the actual behaviour of the parachutes on the ground though, I guess they'd have to be deformable or animated somehow.

Air brakes could do a similar job without being too difficult to program. You need a part with two positions, like gears, and variable drag, like parachutes, without having to worry about the thing clipping with ground.

B9 and Firespitter have air brakes. It's just that a parachute looks cooker, do you remember the shuttle?

Yeah, mods exist. And this topic is rather old and outdated-ish. We can wish, but digging up old topics isn't really necessary. If you want it that badly and you simply can't use mods, make a new topic.
