The ICBM Challenge

Recommended Posts

This is pretty simple. Build an ICBM based off of a real one or use your own design. NO CHEATS ALLOWED. Anyways, your target will be to get from KSC to KSC2. Here are the guidelines:

No manned ICBMs/Cruise missiles.

No cheats/exploits such as infinite fuel, infinite rcs, etc.

If you get to KSC2 within 8 minutes of launch of an ICBM, you will be rewarded 5 points. (You get 10 minutes for low-medium altitude cruise missiles and 8 minutes for high altitude missiles.)

On your post boost stage, you can have a maximum of 6 seperatrons.

This isn't exactly ICBM exclusive, because you can build a cruise missile, but if you do there are some extra rules.

Rules for cruise missiles:

No 2.5 meter parts.

If you use engines instead of jets, you must add 1 minute to your time.

NO SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS.

Point System:

If you make it to KSC2 within 8 minutes of launch, you receive 5 extra points.

Using NERVA's with the bad-ass looking engine shroud with the radiation sign on it will grant you 1 point.

For each RTG you attach to a NERVA, you get 1/8th of a point. I.E. 8 RTGs attached to a NERVA will grant you 1 point.

You can gain a maximum of 3 points from Blutonium-enriched nukes. (RTGs attached to a NERVA)

Each warhead will grant you 1 point. I.E. 8 NERVAs grants you 8 points.

You can have a maximum of a 16 point gain from extra warheads.

You must have at least 1 NERVA attached to your launch vehicle for your ICBM to be qualified to receive points.

Speed Points:

For each milestone in speed when hitting the ground, you get the number of points specified.

100m/s or less= 1 point (How did you get this slow?)

101-200m/s= 2 points

201-300m/s= 3 points

301/400m/s= 4 points

401-500m/s= 5 points

501-600m/s= 6 points

601-700m/s= 7 points

701-800m/s= 8 points

801-900m/s= 9 points

901-1000m/s= 10 points

You get the pattern for anything higher.

I'm sorry, but I don't want to do the math, so please figure out your own points.

In order to be qualified, you must post 1 picture in the VAB, 1 on the launch pad, one for each stage of the rocket, one for reentry so we can see how pretty your nuclear weapon burns as it slams into the atmosphere like a brick wall, post a pic of when it crashes, and post a pic of the flight log. Also, if your image is broken and I can't find it though opening a new tab with it, you are disqualified until the pictures are fixed.

Please do not continue to bump your thread, if people don't enter your challenge they're simply not interested.

I only bumped it once, and I wanted to post my own entry because I think it's a rule that you have to do your own challenge, although I might be wrong. I might be thinking of an older rule. Regardless, sorry.

I know how to make an ICBM, but I don't know how to target them

Just use mechjeb and look on the map, there should be a small h inside a notch in a mountain range. I had to manuver a bit to get it directly in the h with KSC2. There is a site with a map of Kerbin and KSC2. As long as it lands withing 5km of the h I'll take it. http://www.kerbalmaps.com/
