Was thinking the last time the forums went down, no one could get their DLs for mods, right?

Some of the other sites that show off mods mostly just re-link to the forums, which were down at the time.

What if we could have a site dedicated to the mods, only for showcasing, showing off the most up-to-date version, along with a system of up-vote/down-vote for them. Mod-makers would be the preferred group to add mods to the system, hoping that we could make a search function better then the SpacePort, allowing more accurate tags, user added tags (which could be voted on for accuracy), comments for the registered users.

No mod would be hosted on the site, merely a repository for the DL links that the mod-makers have. For some mods, such as MechJeb, which have three people (iirc) working on it at separate stages now, all who worked on the latest iteration would get the credit for it.

If you're interested in something like this being started, have an idea on it, or want to help with it, let me know with a reply to the thread.

Bear in mind that Spaceport 2 is currently under development by SQUAD, and so that will likely be the go-to location for downloading mods in the future.

ETAs are dangerous, especially for small companies that may end up changing plans or reorganizing priorities at anymore.

Given the topics and tones of what has been said about SpacePort 2, I'd expect it to be released within the year; Given the forum's history it shouldn't go down for a week until Febuary at the soonest

For that matter, even when the only download link is on the forums, you can usually still find the links to the actual mod by using the Google cache.

If you put in a search string like "Kerbal Space Program [name of mod]", it should bring up a link to the forum thread. Out to the side, there should be a little drop-down arrow; click on that, and it will give you the option of viewing the cached version of the thread from whenever Google's crawler bots last archived it.

There were quite a few mods that couldn't be accessed even with cache scraping though
