i cant goto the mun!

Recommended Posts

How many kerbals are you trying to send? The launcher needed depends on the payload weight. Pictures of the lander (or orbiter, as the Mun is now a pain to set down on) you are using might also help. To go to the Mun, you want to drag your apoapsis out to the Mun's altitude. You need to thus burn on the opposite side of Kerbin from where you want the intercept. The lead angle (how far in front of the Mun you want your orbit) is roughly 45*.

It took me 69 hours of slow and steady learning to land Jeb on the Mün. What I'd suggest is getting one of the tried-and-true designs off Spaceport to get yourself to the Mün if you can't be bothered with the spaceship design part of it.

If you're obsessive-compulsive like me and want to learn how things in space works without trying to learn everything at once, I'd suggest the Wiki campaign (in my signature) as it actually teaches what you need to learn and builds up on what you've learnt before (e.g. getting to orbit, pinpoint orbits, rendezvous and docking, etc)

can you give us more info how you fail?

- not enough fuel?

- cant land?

- can get encounter?

or what??

not enough fuel:

you need ~900m/s dV from 100kmX100km kerbin to get Mun encounter and another 200/ms or so to close the orbit,

build your ship accordingly

cant land:

you need enough thrust, since Mun has so much less gravity than kerbin, usually thrust isnt the problem

instead, fuel is.

you need ~ 700m/s of dV to land, it depends on you landing profile, it may go up to ~1000m/s if you spend a lot of fuel to steer.

- a tip is to make sure your lander legs are longer than the engine's height, or else you'll hv to land on your engines.

cant get encounter:

make sure Mun is ahead of you by ~1/3 -1/4 of a period, and then you burn there.

set up and mess around with the manuever node to make sure you get an encounter and burn accordingly.
