Hi!

Hello *wave*

Not normally one for doing this sort of thing, but I can forsee phsyically needing these forums before too long. Played the demo early yesterday, and bought the full game about an hour later, even though I hadn't managed to get anything into space (that didn't come crashing back with a bang, anyway...).

A few hours in and I'm feeling a bit more confident. So far there is an unmanned probe in orbit around Kerbin, and a 3-man crew on their way back from a test flight of a new rocket that was ideally going to take them to Mun, but alas it doesn't have enough power. Even if I would have any idea how to go about setting the guys up for orbit and return (no landing yet) from there, but we'll see.

It's a rare thing to find a game like this nowadays, something that actually requires thought and planning. But that just makes finding this gem all the better.

Anyway, you'll probably get pestered for help at some point in the very near future, so I thought I'd give everyone a heads up :)

Hi, I'm new here too. I've been playing the game for about a week and a half now. I agree with you about what a gem it is. If you haven't done so already, go watch Scott Manley's YouTube videos. He does an excellent job of explaining how to do a lot of different things in KSP. Without his videos, I would never have made it to space.

Welcome aboard, Sundancer!

Some heads up info.

Kerbin min stable orbit = 70,000m

Kerbol = The sun

Always plan for a return trip.

Press [ or ] to switch between craft in near proximity.

Press Alt + Click at building phase to copy parts.

Press Shift + Q or E to rotate in small degree.

Press X and C to switch between the numbers of copy and + Shift key to reverse the order.

Do not put RCS on 45 Degree, always put it at 0, 90, 270 degree.

Thanks for the welcome :)

TheAquired, yup. His videos are fantastic. Since I watched his one about getting into orbit, I've had success every time (well, if we ignore the incident with the solid boosters...).

Sirine, I had no idea you could maintain orbit that low! I'll have to send a Kerbalnaut up to see if I can manipulate an orbit enough to manage it. Planning for the return trip is one thing when all you're doing is launching into a 200km orbit, just need to save a tiny bit of fuel for a retrograde burn and that's it. Landing on the Mun and having the guys return is going to be a whole different ballgame, and one helluva rocket.

Thanks for the tips, they will certainly come in handy. I wonder if I can get a probe into solar orbit...

Another thing, is it weird that I got a little panicky when Jebediah lost his grip on command module during an EVA? He was the re-entry descent too, and I had to spend about 10 minutes applying tiny little bursts of power to the pack and get lucky with the capsule's rotation.

I love this game :)
