SRB glitch

Whilst joyriding in my new spaceplane I saw a plume of fire near KSC so I flew over to investigate. As Gliski took a low flyby he peered out of the cockpit window and stared into the fire.

After veering around for another pass, GLiski came in even closer.

THe shape through the smoke was foggy, but audible, it was clearly an SRB!

Gliski landed nearby and jumped out of his Falcon to investigate.

Now in the eye of the storm, it was impossible to deny that this was an SRB. Gliski recognized this to be an SRB from an old rocket testing reusable, hence the landing leg. But that was weeks ago, no plausible reason would of left this SRB burning for this long.

I jumped Gliski onto the top of the SRB after a few minutes of struggling to balance on the landing leg, and I kinda wish I hadnt, because it launched poor Gliskis miles.

To space to be exact. An apoapsis over 900km.

Gilski came in ballistic crying for his mother and was disintegrated into a pile of smoke. All in the name of science! Aka poking things and jumping on them.

SO my question to you guys is, has anyone experienced the glitch before?

Ive restarted my game and the SRB is gone btw so its not recurring as far as I know.

I've seen something like that before. I had launched a rocket and had just detached my SRB's as they had did they duty and ran out of solid fuel. The SRB's fell from the craft and then I realized that my staging was borked and I wasn't going to make it to space today.

As I was just wanting to get my experiment into orbit to try a few things out (wasn't the real mission yet) I opened the debug menu and turned on infinite fuel.

i hear a whump and suddenly I look down and see th SRB's fire back up. All 4 of them flew by my ship (2 came close to hitting me) the they started looping around. As long as I had infinite fuel on they flew around on their own.

i tried it again with another test flight just to see how far I could make it happen. As long as they didn't hit the ground they would fire up again. One finally did nail my ship. The explosion was awesome. :). Bob didn't care for it though.

Something similar happened to me except it wasnt because of infinite fuel.

I accidently hit the spacebar and my boosters came flying off and basically just flew right next to me for the longest time until they started tipping and then just sandwhiched myrocket which resulted in a huge explosion.

It was pretty cool/creepy :)

Thats why I mapped staging to backspace from day one. Spacebar is so stupid for staging. Dont know why its default in the first place.

Wow, with the kind of apoapsis and arc, you might have been able to circularize it with his RCS pack and save him...

OR you could design a rescue ship, launch it, match up to his orbit as he falls, get him in the ship, and somehow land at the KSC.

In KSP, there is no such thing as overkill.
