Curious little green button

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but since I've very recently started with this game I have a question about one tiny green button right next to the VSI at the top on the outside screen display. The popup hint shows 'Gears' and as far as I've noticed it's always on. At first I thought this would be the equivalent to pressing 'G' on the keyboard for toggling landing gears, but it doesn't do that, so the question is, were's it for?

Hmm, so the first thought that it would be the landing gear toggle was the right assumption after all.

Since I'm, as mentioned earlier, very new to KSP, version 0.21.1 is my only reference. :-)

Lets hope this will be fixed in the next version and thanks guys for the info.

Since update .21, I have to press 'G' multiple times before the gear actually drops.
Really? That's odd. I've never had that problem. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I always remap landing gear to the ` key, because I got sick of hitting G by accident.

I'm thinking this is just a display issue.

The Gear actiongroup is the only action group that starts the flight scene enabled.

If what is happening is what I think it is, the bug is that the actiongroup key (g) does not know this.

Therefore the first time you hit the G key, you are enabling the Gear action group as far as the controls are concerned, but because the game knows the Gear action groups is already enabled, nothing happens that the player can see.

The second press of the G key then disables the Gear action group as normal and things behave as expected from there on out.

(Note I have not confirmed this in game, but it is consistent with what I've seen of how action groups work.)

Well, just tried the above and as far as the keypress response reaction you're right. However, clicking the button with the mouse doesn't trigger any action of the landing gears at all, not before or after using the 'G' key, it just isn't functional it seems.

I'm not an expert with Unity coding, but it feels like the code is just hooked up in one direction, a keypress triggers action on gear and the gear active/inactive button state on the screen, but fails the other way around.

Since 'installing' KPS is in fact just extracting an archive file one can rule out an installation error, it's most probably some oversight in the programmed code internally.

That's odd.

Clicking the green gear icon with the mouse toggles the actiongroup for me, so I'm not sure why you are seeing that.

I can toggle all the actiongroups at the top with my mouse (abort/gear/lights/brake) but not SAS or RCS at the bottom.

Interesting, I've actually used the keyboard for most of the actions you describe. I wasn't aware all those items were clickable as well. The lights and brakes buttons do work with the mouse, used those, the abort also doesn't have any effect, tried that as well. SAS and RCS I haven't tried yet, will see wat happens when mousing those. ;-)
