Taurus MPCV

The Taurus Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle was created to explore other planetary bodies in the Kerbol system. Though incapable of interplanetary travel on its own, the Taurus MPCV is capable of trans-Munar injection, establishing a Munar orbit, and returning to the surface of Kerbin.

The accompanying service module is equipped with all the equipment you need for exploration. It contains within it the fuels necessary to explore the Kerbol system: MonoPropellant for the RCS systems. LiquidFuel and Oxidizer for the highly efficient propulsion system, and even contains batteries and solar arrays so that you're never left floating in the dark. If you are in dire need of power, but Kerbol isn't visible, turn on the Fuel Cell Generator, which converts fuel into electric power, to help stave off the cold of space.

And when all is said and done, the Taurus MPCV is equipped with an 8-layer heatshield to protect the cabin and its crew upon re-entry into the atmosphere. Capable of withstanding heats in excess of 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit, it ensures the safe return of the brave Kerbals who ventured into space. Once the heatshield has done its job, the parachutes deploy. First, the drogue parachutes, which help slow the vehicle to low speeds so that main chute deployment goes off without a hitch. When the main chutes are deployed, the drogue chutes are automatically cut, and the returning capsule glides safely to the surface of Kerbin.

Launch Directive Vehicle

The Launch Directive Vehicle, or LDV for short, is an achievement in and of itself. Capable of propelling fully manned payloads to Low Kerbin Orbit, and providing a second stage for trans-Munar injection, this massive, low cost craft is the basis for future manned missions into space.

Upon the initial launch, the four Rockomax "Skipper" engines and the Solid Rocket Boosters propel the 467,000 kg rocket towards the sky. The Solid Rocket Boosters burn for about 120 seconds, and then detach from the core stage with the new separation techniques. Upon detachment, four ullage motors propel the SRBs away from the core stage, and parachutes deploy, allowing for the recovery of the SRBs once they splash down. The core stage has enough delta-V to propel the Taurus MPCV payload into orbit, and still leave fuel to spare. However, it is jettisoned before the circularization burn so that it can return to the planet. The circularization burn is then conducted by the cryogenic second stage, which is also responsible for interplanetary burns from LKO.

Other Information

Before downloading and using this craft file, you will need a few mods, or you won't be able to load the craft file properly. Also, this craft was made on version 0.21.0, so any version after this should be able to open the file, as long as the mods used are kept up-to-date.

Also, there is a spin on the craft as it is going through the lowest level of the atmosphere. It's possibly due to Advanced SRBs, though I haven't found a way to combat the spin other than to try and stabilize it by rotating the craft the other way. It still makes it into orbit regardless, and it's only a minor inconvenience.

Required Mods

  • Advanced SRBs
  • AIES Aerospace (Only the solar panels are needed)
  • KSPX (Only the LES part is needed)
  • KWRocketry
  • SDHI Service Module System
  • StretchyTanks

* I do not provide access to mods.
