Ancient debris becomes flags?

Recommended Posts

I just noticed that some old lander stages and debris that I had in my save file are now showing up in the Tracking Station list of Flags. Has this happened to anybody else?

I wonder what would happen if I walk a kerbal over there and try to "Take down" the old ship.

OK...no joy. One of the pieces of debris is located by my Minmus Base, so it was easy to fly a kerbal over to try it out. Clicking on no part of the debris lander stage does anything flaggy. I even made sure the kerbal was close enough to all the parts.

What I gathered out of this is the debris parts arn't flags then?

Not sure, but I'm certain I saw a way to edit that so you could make a probe a lander (for eg and etc).... so, you could probably also use that to make a lander into a flag...

but just because you change what it is in the tracking station... doesn't change it in "the real world"....

otherwise you could get a Kerbal to "pack up a base" and put it in his pocket then replant the base on another rock....

Yeah.... its real.... it happens... doesn't it?

Yes renaming vessels lets you change its 'type'

The reason things show up as one type or another is because the VESSEL node for that ship has a property that indicates what it is. It only affects how it shows up in the map, what icon it has and whether it shows up when it's type is filtered on the map. I assume it also affects whether it is deleted when debris count exceeds your max allowed debris. Don't know that last part for sure, like if you classified something as debris that had controlled parts, would it be deleted...
