New to the verse here! Just thought I'd share my first experience

Well met! I had no idea the game would be as in depth as it is. It is so deceiving to look at on steam. I am so happy I did. I haven't been addicted to a computer game in quite awhile and I can't stop trying new stuff lol. Without looking at any tutorials and just deciding to jump in and see what I could learn I decided go big or go home... lol.

I decided to make a space shuttle type ship with a huge rocket with boosters to get into space. I never made it into space until my third version of the ship and rocket. That was after many failed attempts. I finally got into space but couldn't get into orbit, it just went out to space and its trajectory brought it back.

It was here I realized I needed a tutorial on how to make a stable orbit so I gave in and watched one on how to do so and I'm glad I did, I don't think I would have figured that one out lol. Finally with my fifth version of the ship and rocket I was able to get into space, create a stable orbit, orbit the planet and re-enter and land. totally addicting and the options are crazy limitless. It took the fifth version because carrying the ship itself was heavy, I had to counter the weight on the opposite side, and no matter what I did I just could not get the right balance of weight and fuel require to get me there. After SO many attempts I finally got it down, regulating the speed on the way up, using two stages of rocket and two stages of ship propulsion. It was pretty cool releasing that last stage with just my little starship orbiting the earth. After the orbit I made a new trajectory that would put me in a decaying orbit and bring me back down to the surface, made my burn using the last of the tiny fuel I had and came down. Amazing feeling of accomplishment when I got done.

Cannot wait to do more with this game. Figuring out how to build a space station in orbit, building ships out there, flying to other places, etc. Not even sure what is possible vs what isn't in game.

Career mode isn't working yet is that correct?

About career mode: yes, you are correct. They put the radio button in a few versions back as a place holder. But you're in luck, because (barring some horrible calamity) the first iteration of career mode is coming 0.22.

Thanks for the info! I've been trying to scour the forums and not ask the same redundant questions but if you happen to not mind answering a couple :)

1. Is there any purpose other than just figuring out how to do it, to put a satellite in orbit? Does it effect gameplay in any way?

2. Is it possible to do any type of construction in space? If I want to build a space station, do I have to build the entire thing on the planet and somehow get it into space?

3. Aside from the Mun, is it possible to go to other planets?

4. In the current sandbox mode, is every fuel and part available right when you enter? Or is it possible to discover new energy sources, parts, etc. ?

Thanks!

Currently, satellites perform no active functions. That will change as science missions and communications are implemented as the game is developed. It is very possible and quite fun to assemble structures in space using docking rings to connect the parts. There's a whole thread for space station pictures in the "spacecraft exchange" section of the forum: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/22251-Showcase-SPACE-STATIONS!-Post-your-pictures-here It's possible to reach all the planets and moons, with varying degrees of difficulty, though it's not possible to get back from all of them. In sandbox mode, all parts are available immediately and nothing needs to be unlocked or researched.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
