Transmitting science from place to place.

Recommended Posts

So you can transmit science directly back to Kerbin even if you are on Duna, (Some powerful transmitter) I think you should establish transmission satellite, able to receive science data and send it off to another place, decreasing the chance of science data being lost.

Thoughts?

It's a good idea. Alternatively, I'd be happy enough to see the power requirements scale based on distance and/or atmospheric density as transmission power would need to be higher. Also, unsure if Line of Sight plays a part in this (would be important to set up an orbiter for any ground missions).

Maybe it should be related to transmission power/type of antenna. Rovers and landers wouldn't have quite as high-gain a transmitter setup, but satellites can. That way you get the situation like we have around Mars at the moment with MRO and Odyssey relating data from Curiosity and the MER rovers at a higher data rate.

Yes! that is exactly what I was thinking. Makes a good mission profile as well
