In my career, I lost Jeb on the first mission landing mun because lacking returning fuel, he crashed into the mun at the end of a failed launch

But days later (I dont know exactly when) Jeb is in the complex again!!

Why? BTW once he's in the Lost page, the status is 'Missing In Action' (or something similar, I can't recall exactly)

I observed that behavior in sandbox mode in 0.21; Jeb seems to respawn after being dead a while. Maybe it's a different Jeb, might be a common name for kerbals?

Kerbals seem to resurrect in the current gameplay. There's no option of switching it on and off. However the 'Crew manifest' mod has an feature where you can chose to turn it off or on.

It's an option you can change in the persistent.sfs file for each save, "MissingCrewsRespawn".

True means that all your Kerbals will be "Missing in Action" when they explode, and eventually come back. False means that they will instead be "Killed in Action" and not respawn.

The default is True, but I don't think you can change this in game. You'll have to edit the persistence file to change it.

if he has an orange suit, its the default Jeb as Supernovy said, you can always edit it in the persistent save file. set from mode 3 <death> to 0 <in the complex> ALSO, Bill, Jeb, Bob are known to respawn after death, but, I do not know if the lesser kerbals do this

OK thanks for the information! I noticed that when crash into ground, kerbals just disappeared in a smoke, that might be the 'Missing' thing LoL

Whatever I'm glad Jeb comes back, I'll try not to kill him again this time :/

The opposite happened to me. I was on Eve. I had built a rocket with 9000 delta-v and it still wasn't enough to escape. So I crashed into the surface, Jeb died, and I went back to the space center to see if i could build a better one. Then when i tried to launch, Jeb was gone. Wasn't in the astronauts building or VAB list. I figured the game was telling me (IN SANDBOX, mind you) that I could no longer fly with Jebediah Kerman. I said screw that ****, deleted my save and started a new one. NO ONE PUTS JEB IN A CORNER OF SUBSPACE!!! What was I supposed to do? Fly with Bob? Is that what they want me to do? Fly with Bob? Screw that....YOU take a bus.

this is probably because in the save file, you have MissingCrewsRespawn = true.

You can change your persistent to have it to false if you don't want them to re-spawn.
